Sevilla FC vs FC Inter Milano betting prediction: Sevilla FC 1 – 1 FC Inter Milano

Sevilla face Inter Milan in the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League Final. The match is being played at the home of Bundesliga team, 1. FC Köln. RheinEnergieSTADION, or Stadion Köln as it is known to fans, also hosted the semi-final between Manchester United and Sevilla.

This is Inter’s first appearance in the final since the competition was rebranded in 2009 from the UEFA Cup. They last appeared in back-to-back UEFA Cup finals in 1997 and 1998.

Inter lost the 1997 final to Schalke of the German Bundesliga. It was the last time the final was played over two legs and Inter’s only final defeat in the competition. The following season, they returned to become champions, defeating fellow Serie A side Lazio in the final, in Paris.

I Nerazzurri were also champions in 1991, defeating Roma, and in 1994, defeating Austria Salzburg – as they were known prior to their purchase by Red Bull.

Sevilla are the only side to feature in more finals and to have won the competition more times than Inter Milan. This will be their sixth final, having won all five of their previous final appearances.

They won the competition three years in a row between 2014 and 2016, defeating Benfica, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Liverpool in the finals.

Los Nervionenses has previously won the competition in 2006 against Middlesborough and 2007 against fellow La Liga side, Espanyol.

Sevilla FC vs FC Inter Milano: What are the betting odds?

The Andalusians are undefeated since the restart. They come into the final having won eight out of their last nine matches, including each of the last four. Despite this, they start the match as the underdogs, as 12/5, to win the trophy in normal time.

Drawing matches was ultimately Inter’s downfall in Serie A in 2019/20. They drew double the amount of games as Juve, which saw them finish a point behind the Old Lady despite losing fewer matches. The odds of this match needing to be settled in extra time or penalties are 23/10.

Inter Milan come into this match on the back of six consecutive victories, in all competitions. They have won every match since entering the competition in February. They start the match as heavy favourites at 6/5 to win the match in 90 minutes.

Sevilla FC vs FC Inter Milano: Recommended Sevilla bets

Lucas Ocampos is Sevilla’s top scorer this season, with sixteen goals in all competitions. There are doubts though about his fitness, having seen him struggling in the match against United with his knee heavily strapped. The Argentine is 7/4 to score during the match. You can also back him at 11/2 to be used as an impact sub to score the game’s final goal.

Munir El Haddadi looks likely to take his place should Ocampos be unable to start the final. He is Sevilla’s top scorer in this competition with five goals, despite not starting for them since the group stages. Munir is 12/5 to score this match.

Éver Banega would be Sevilla’s penalty taker in Ocampos’ absence. Similar to his countryman, he has a 100% record from the spot this season, with two from two. Sevilla are 8/1 to score a penalty this match.

Seven of Sevilla’s eleven Europa League matches have had under 2.5 goals. Odds of 4/5 are available for there being under 2.5 goals this match.

Sevilla have kept seven clean sheets in the competition already this season. Can they be the first to stop Inter getting on the scoresheet? They are 11/4 to keep a clean sheet on Friday.

Sevilla FC vs FC Inter Milano: Recommended Inter Milano bets

Romelu Lukaku is Inter’s top scorer this season, with thirty-three goals in all competitions. He also leads the way in the Europa League, with six goals, including a late brace in the semi-final against Shakhtar. Lukaku is 11/10 to score in the game.

The Belgian international has also been lethal from the penalty spot this season, slotting home seven from seven penalties that he has taken. Inter are 6/1 to score a penalty on Monday evening.

Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring in Inter’s semi-final victory over Shakhtar. The 22-year-old forward has broken the deadlock more than anybody for Inter this season. He has scored the opening goal on twelve occasions and is 5/1 to break the deadlock in the final.

Inter have conceded just one goal in their last three Europa League games. They have three clean sheets in five games in this competition. I Nerazzurri are 7/4 to keep a clean sheet here.

All five of Inter’s games have seen over 1.5 goals. Odds of 1/3 are available for this outcome on Friday.

Sevilla FC vs FC Inter Milano: Match preview

“If you play good attack, you win the game, but, if you play good defence you win championships”

Whether it is NHL, NFL, NBA or football, this quote or some variant thereof exists for almost every team sport. It is often attributed to legendary basketball coach, Željko Obradović. It was also famously said by Sir Alex Ferguson in relation to his side that dominated the Premier League in the 90’s and 00’s.

This is particularly true in cup competitions where you can only be eliminated if you are beaten. Compared to a league, where amassing more points than your opponents requires you to win more than you draw.

We saw with Sevilla against United, a superb defensive performance to weather the storm at the start of the second half. Typified, more than anything else, by the wonderful performance of Bounou who saved four one-v-ones.

Likewise, while all the talk before the Shakhtar game was about their attack, it was their collapse at the back which saw Inter batter them 5-0. So many individual errors and a failure to defend once Inter had the ball in the final third.

Will it be a Defensive Final?

In Sevilla and Inter, we have the two best defensive teams in final stages of the competition. Sevilla concedes on average a goal every 2.2 games. Inter are even more solid, with a goal conceded every 2.5 games.

Inter also had the lowest expected goals against (xGA), at 0.77 – narrowly beating out the 0.79 of United. Sevilla were third-best in this metric at 0.93 xGA. But, the Spanish side had the lowest non-shot xGA at 0.83, with Inter second on 0.97. This essentially is a measure of the areas of the pitch you allow the opponent to have the ball without facing a shot.

Sevilla’s matches also have very few goals, averaging just 2.27 per game. Only the 2.0 of Copenhagen was lower. It is clear for both coaches, not losing is more important than winning. In a cup format, this is perfect for success, even if the neutral fan may not always enjoy it.

Inter’s inability to turn draws into victories was what ultimately hindered them in their league campaign. They lost fewer matches than champions Juve, but not losing games doesn’t win you the league. Winning the most games invariably does.

Sevilla’s greatest strength will be cancelled out by Inter. The difference between the teams will likely be Inter’s better quality on the ball and in attack. This will likely see Conte’s men celebrating come midnight on Friday, even if it takes extra-time to break the deadlock.

Sevilla FC team news vs FC Inter Milano

Nemanja Gudelj missed the matches against Roma and Wolves due to a positive test for the Coronavirus. He was cleared to play against United, and made a brief three-minute cameo from the bench.

Luuk de Jong scored the winner from the bench against United. Should Ocampos fail to overcome his knee problem to start the game, de Jong will hope he did enough to start the match ahead of Munir.

Julen Lopetegui has named the same starting XI in each of his last three matches. He is unlikely to make unforced changes. Therefore, the fitness of Ocampos could be the only question mark for his starting XI.

FC Inter Milano team news vs Sevilla FC

Achraf Hakimi, who was signed from Dortmund for €40.00m, is unavailable. Players must have been already registered and eligible to play for the club at the domestic level since 3 February to take part in the competition.

Kwadwo Asamoah and Matías Vecino have missed Inter’s route to the final due to injury. Neither are expected to be involved in the final.

Alexis Sanchez suffered a hamstring strain late in the quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen. He was only fit enough for a place on the bench for the 5-0 win over Shakhtar. This makes him unlikely to be fit to start Friday’s match against Sevilla.

Stefano Sensi hasn’t started for Inter since January due to a hamstring injury. He featured from the bench against Shakhtar but isn’t expected to start on Friday.

Similar to Lopetegui, Antonio Conte has named the same starting XI in each of his last three matches. He seems unlikely to make any changes for the final, trusting instead in those who got him this far.
