Scotland will also take confidence from the fact that they beat Czech Republic twice in 2020.

Czech Republic have lost four of their last five away from home, although they did beat Albania 3-1 last week.

Scotland vs Czech Republic betting tips: Match preview

Scotland’s Euro 2020 campaign kicks off on Monday afternoon with a home game against Czech Republic at Hampden Park. The other two sides in Group D – England and Croatia – face each other on Sunday.

Czech Republic won one and lost one of their two warm-up matches. They were hammed 4-0 by Italy at the start of the month before beating Albania 3-1 a few days later. Patrik Schick, Luka Masopust, and Ondrej Celustka were all on target.

Overall, the Czechs have played five matches in 2021, winning two, losing two, and drawing one. Their standout result was a 6-2 away win over Estonia in March.

Scotland are in good form

Scotland held the Netherlands to a 2-2 draw in their first preparation game, before beating Luxembourg 1-0 last Sunday.

The Tartan Army are unbeaten so far in 2021, winning two and drawing three of their five matches. Scotland have only lost two of their last 16 matches across all competitions.

The Czech Republic are ranked 40th in the FIFA World Rankings, four places higher than Scotland.

Scotland were the final team to qualify for Euro 2020. After finishing third in their qualifying group, behind Belgium and Russia, Scotland advanced to the qualifying play-offs, where they narrowly saw off Israel and Serbia – both in penalty shootouts.

Steve Clarke’s side eventually sealed qualification in November 2020 – almost four months after the original Euro 2020 tournament was scheduled to have finished. This will be Scotland’s first appearance at a European Championship since 1996. They’re aiming to make it past the first round for the first time in their history.

Czechs are always at the Euros

Czech Republic qualified for the tournament as runners-up in qualifying Group A, behind England but above Kosovo, Bulgaria, and Montenegro. Jaroslav Silhavy’s side won five and lost three of their eight qualifying games.

Euro 2020 will be Czech Republic’s seventh consecutive appearance at a European Championship. They famously finished runners-up in 1996, and also made it to the semi-finals in 2004.

Scotland and Czech Republic have an even head-to-head record. Czech Republic have won four, lost four, and drawn one of their previous nine matches against the Scots. That said, Scotland have dominated the fixture in reason years – winning each of their previous three encounters, including two in 2020.

Ryan Fraser scored the only goal of the game in Scotland’s 1-0 win over Czech Republic at Hampden Park last year in the UEFA Nations League B.

Next up for the Czech Republic is a clash against 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia on Friday – also at Hampden Park. Scotland are also in action again on Friday. They make the short trip to London for their Home Nations derby against England at Wembley.

11 of Scotland’s 26-man squad play their club football in Scotland, with a further 14 playing in England.
