Netherlands vs Spain: Recommended bets

Under 2.5 goals. There hasn’t been more than a single goal scored in any of the Netherlands’ five matches in 2020. while four of Spain’s matches this calendar year have produced less than 2 goals.

Ferran Torres to score. Torres has scored three goals in his last five Man City appearances, and also netted in Spain’s win over Ukraine in October.

Sergio Ramos could be another contender. The Real Madrid defender has scored two of Spain’s six goals in 2020, and is also Spain’s designated penalty taker. However, Ramos could be rested ahead of the upcoming Nations League matches.

during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Final match between Netherlands and Spain at Soccer City Stadium on July 11, 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Netherlands vs Spain: Match preview

Netherlands host Spain in an international friendly in Amsterdam on Wednesday evening.

Netherlands failed to win any of last month’s three matches. They suffered a 1-0 friendly defeat at home to Mexico before consecutive away Nations League draws in Bosnia and Italy. Donny van de Beek is the only player to score for the Netherlands in nearly 400 minutes of playing time.

The Netherlands are 3rd in Nations League Group A1, behind Poland and Italy, although the group is pretty open still if they manage to turn their form around. Following Wednesday’s friendly, Netherlands have two Nations League matches at home to Bosnia and away to Poland.

Spain are top of Group A4 with two wins and a draw from their four matches. They travel to Switzerland and host Germany in their final two matches of 2020.

Spain were held to a goalless draw in Portugal in a friendly last month, and following that up with a 1-0 home win over Switzerland and a 1-0 away defeat to Ukraine. Spain have kept three clean sheets in their last four matches, but have found goals hard to come by as well.

Spain and Netherlands have met 11 times previously, with Netherlands winning six of those encounters, losing four and drawing one.

Their most recent meeting, an international friendly in March 2015, ended 2-0 in Netherlands’ favour. Stefan de Vrij and Davy Klaassen were on target that night.

Of course, their most famous meeting came in the final of the 2010 World Cup, which Spain won 1-0 after extra-time.

Netherlands team news vs Spain

There are no uncapped outfielders in the current squad.

Wout Weghorst, Pablo Rosario, Daley Sinkgraven, and Kevin Strootman were among those to be called up to Frank de Boer’s preliminary squad but did not make the final 25-man squad for the upcoming internationals.

Daley Blind has the most caps (71) of those in the current squad, while 33-year-old Ryan Babel is the squad’s oldest player.

Jasper Cillessen and uncapped forward Mohamed Ihattaren have withdrawn from the squad due to injury, while Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined.

Virgil van Dijk won’t be featuring for his country for some time. The defender is sidelined with a serious knee injury.

RB Leipzig forward Justin Kluivert was not selected by de Boer.

Spain team news vs Netherlands

Hector Bellerin has been called up to the national team, albeit as a replacement for the injured Jesus Navas. Bellerin won his last senior cap in 2016.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente will be hoping to win his first senior cap.

David de Gea appears to be Spain’s first-choice goalkeeper, although given that this is a friendly match, Kepa Arizabalaga may start in goal – as he did against Portugal last month.

Sergio Ramos is the squad’s oldest player, as well as the player with the most caps (175) and goals (23).

Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati has withdrawn from the side. The 18-year-old has undergone knee surgery and will be out for around four months.

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is also injured, while Dani Ceballos, Jose Campana and Rodrigo have been dropped from last month’s squad.
