Molde vs Hibernian betting tips: Europa League qualifying match preview and predictions

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon

Molde vs Hibernian prediction: Molde 1-1 Hibernian

First leg result: Hibernian 0-0 Molde

0-0? Hibs don’t do 0-0s. There had been 27 goals in their 5 games before Molde turned up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men were difficult opponents for them and the result reflected how even a game it was.

The good news for Neil Lennon is that the Norweigan side did not score an away goal and he knows a score draw would be enough for his team.

Who will keep their European campaign going and make the play off round?

The story of the first leg

Molde vs Hibernian: Who will win?

Molde are favourites to get through and are priced at 8/11 to win a game they have to win.

Hibs are 10/3 to win.

However, a score draw would do for Neil Lennon’s side and they are 19/20 to win or draw.

A 0-0 draw, which would force extra time, is 17/2.

Molde vs Hibernian: Match preview

Molde’s manager is Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

He won 12 major honours under Sir Alex Ferguson and is now making a name for himself in management in his second spell at the helm of Molde.

Molde are actually currently in the middle of their league season. They had a big game just last Sunday when they welcomed league leaders Brann to the Røkkeløkka.

Amazingly Molde won 5-1 to really boost their chances of winning the Eliteserien for the first time since 2014.

Like their Scottish opponents, they’ve already negotiated two rounds of Europa League qualifying. They beat Glenavon from Northern Ireland 6-3 on aggregate before dismissing Albanian side Laçi 5-0 over two legs. However, Hibernian proved to be a step up in difficulty.

Can Hibernian make it past Molde?

Neil Lennon’s side have won back to back European ties for the first time since 1972 and are looking to become the first Hibs side to ever win three in a row.

A ridiculous 12-5 win over Faroese side NSÍ Runavík epitomised Lennon’s team. Good going forward but leaky at the back.

They then squeezed past Asteras Tripolis from Greece as a nervy 1-1 draw at the Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium was enough to see them through.

They kept their first clean sheet of the season beating Motherwell 3-0 in their opening game of the SPFL season. They then drew 1-1 away to St Johnstone on Sunday to leave them second in the early standings.

Hibernian need to score in Norway to have any chance of progressing; but scoring goals hasn’t been the problem. It’s keeping them out the other end.

Nevertheless, they’ll be confident of making history and getting one step closer to their first ever European group stage.

Molde team news vs Hibernian

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has a fully fit squad at his disposal.

Former Southampton and Brighton defender, Vegard Forren, is their leader at the back and is integral to any success they have.

Their danger men are Eirik Hestad and Erling Braut Håland. They’ve scored 9 and 10 goals respectivly so far this season and Hestad has 5 in 3 Europa League appearances.

The Røkkeløkka will be rocking so can the passionate Norwegian crowd roar on their team?

Hibernian team news vs Molde

Star sticker Florian Kamberi was rested on Sunday but, having scored 4 Europa League goals already, he’ll surely return to the team.

On loan Liverpool goalkeeper Ádám Bogdán has been struggling with a hip injury but there is optimism the Hungarian international will be able to return.

Sadly for Hibs’ fans there is no more John McGinn. The 23 year old Scotland international has left for around £3 million to go to Aston Villa.

He’s been replaced by Emerson Hyndman who’s joined on a season long loan from Bournemouth.

Predicted Hibernian team vs Molde

The winners of this tie will play either Dinamo Minsk from Belarus or Russian heavyweights Zenit Saint Petersburg in the play off round.

Surprisingly, it looks likely to be Dinamo Minsk after they amazingly won the first leg 4-0 at home against the side that won this competition just 10 years ago.
