Manchester United vs Manchester City: Match details
Match: Manchester United vs Manchester City
Competition: Carabao Cup (EFL Cup)
Date: January 6, 2021
Kick-off time: 7:45 pm, January 6, 2021 (UK time)
Stadium: Old Trafford
Betting prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Manchester City
Both teams come into the match on the back of some pretty good form. City are unbeaten in their last 11 in all competitions, while United are unbeaten in seven.
Given that Man City faced Chelsea on Sunday, the Red Devils will have had a couple of extra days to prepare and should be the fresher of the two sides.
A recent outbreak of Covid-19 in the Manchester City squad means that Pep Guardiola could be without as many as eight first-team players. City’s lengthy absentee list could be the difference between the two sides on the night.
Manchester United vs Manchester City: Recommended bets
Over 2.5 goals. Although City and United’s most recent encounter ended goalless, we should see some goals on Wednesday. 12 goals have been scored in the last three matches at Old Trafford, while Man City have scored seven goals in their last two away matches.
Marcus Rashford to score. Rashford has 14 goals in all competitions this season, including two in his last three appearances.

Manchester United vs Manchester City: Carabao Cup semi-final preview
Manchester United take on rivals Manchester City in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Unlike previous Carabao Cup semi-finals, this round will be settled over one leg. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the match will go to extra-time and, if needed, a penalty shootout. The FA have confirmed that each team can make five substitutions during the match.
Manchester City breezed past Arsenal in the previous round, beating the Gunners 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte were all on the scoresheet.
Prior to that City knocked out Bournemouth (2-1) and Burnley (3-0) in the third and fourth rounds respectively.
City have won four in a row heading into Wednesday’s game. Most recently they beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, thanks to first-half goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne. Sunday’s win lifts City up to 5th in the table on 29 points – four shy of Liverpool and Manchester United, but with a game in hand.
Man United’s impressive run of form continued on New Year’s Day as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Old Trafford. Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes were on the scoresheet, the latter from a somewhat controversial penalty. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are 2nd in the table, level on 33 points with league leaders Liverpool.
Manchester United qualified for the last four after beating Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park in December. Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial scored late, late goals.

Can City end United’s brilliant defensive record in the cup?
The Red Devils are yet to concede a goal in the Carabao Cup this season. They beat Luton 3-0 in the third round and Brighton 3-0 in the fourth round. All three of United’s games in the competition so far have been away from home.
Manchester City are the current holders and have won the trophy in five of the last seven seasons. Manchester United will view this competition as a realistic opportunity for them to end their three-season trophy drought. Indeed, Manchester United’s last domestic trophy was the Carabao Cup in 2017.
These two sides met fairly recently in the Premier League, playing out a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in mid-December. United are unbeaten in their last three matches against City, although their last derby defeat came at home in the Carabao Cup.
The winners of Wednesday’s match will face either Tottenham Hotspur or Brentford in the final at Wembley in April.

Manchester United team news vs Manchester City
Edinson Cavani, who scored in the previous round, is unavailable due to suspension. The Uruguayan striker was charged by the FA over comments he made on social media.
Dean Henderson may start in goal in place of David de Gea, while Alex Telles will compete with Luke Shaw for a spot at left-back.
Despite signing a recent contract extension, Jesse Lingard is unlikely to get any minutes.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are set to start up front for United, with Mason Greenwood likely to be an option from the bench.
Nemanja Matic, Daniel James, Donny van de Beek and Juan Mata are all options in the unlikely event that Solskjaer decides to make sweeping changes.
Defenders Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones are all injured.

Manchester City team news vs Manchester United
Kyle Walker, Gabriel Jesus, and Ederson are all unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Ferran Torres and Ederson are self-isolating, so American Zack Steffen will start in goal for City.
Kevin de Bruyne played in an unfamiliar striker position against Chelsea, a role which could be taken up by Raheem Sterling in midweek. Sergio Aguero’s fitness issues mean he will likely begin the game from the bench.
Nathan Ake missed out against Chelsea due to injury and is a doubt for Wednesday night.
Ilkay Gundogan was taken off at Stamford Bridge after getting “a couple of kicks” on his foot, but he should be okay to play this one.
Aymeric Laporte will miss out due to a hamstring strain.
