Lincoln City vs Liverpool FC: Recommended bets
101 Great Goals’ prediction of Lincoln City 0 – 4 Liverpool is available at odds of 9/1.
Lincoln City’s last home victory over Liverpool came back in 1959 by a scoreline of 4-2. A repeat of this score on Thursday is available at odds of 300/1. These could prove very good odds if Jurgen Klopp puts out a youth team as he did against Aston Villa in the competition last year.
Liverpool’s last win at Sincil Bank was back in 1960. You can back them at 9/1 for the same 1-2 scoreline here on Thursday.
Lincoln City vs Liverpool was historically a high scoring game with 5 of the last six matches seeing over 2.5 goals scored. You can back another high scoring game here on Thursday with odds of 8/15 for over 2.5 goals.
Diogo Jota (pictured above) signed for Liverpool this weekend from Wolves for £45m. The Portuguese international is expected to make his debut for the Reds on Thursday night. Jota is 15/4 to score the game’s opener on Thursday. Or 10/11 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Lincoln.
Lincoln City vs Liverpool FC: Match preview
Much of the talk coming into this game will be surrounding Thiago Alcantara, pictured above. The 29-year-old midfielder had an outstanding debut against Chelsea, albeit from the bench.
It is unlikely Klopp starts the Spanish international here though, instead opting to save his legs for the match against Arsenal at the weekend.
Two new signings almost certain to make their debuts are Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota. Tsimikas, a Greek international left-back, was signed from Olympiakos in the summer for around £11m when Liverpool. Liverpool moved to sign the 24-year-old when they were quoted over £20m for their primary target, Jamal Lewis at Norwich.
Jota was signed from Premier League Wolves at the weekend, but not soon enough to be involved against Chelsea. His registration is now complete though and looks certain to start here.
Many of the kids who shone in the Cups last season for Liverpool will likely feature too. The likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Sepp van den Berg and Neco Williams will all have a chance to show Klopp how close they are to the first team.
Billy Koumetio stood out for Liverpool in pre-season. He’s pretty hard to miss given that his size and frame makes him look huge even next to Virgil van Dijk. The 17-year-old center-back is tipped to have a bright future at Liverpool.
Fringe players such as Adrian, Taki Minamino, Divock Origi, and James Milner will all use the match to get some minutes in their legs.
We could also see some of the returning loanees feature such as Rhian Brewster, Marco Grujic, Loris Karius and Nat Phillips.
Lincoln City team news vs Liverpool FC
Max Melbourne, the 21-year-old left-back, got his only start of the season in the last round against Bradford. He will be hoping Sean Roughan is rotated out for the visit of Liverpool.
Alex Bradley got a rare start at right-back in the last round. Like Melbourne, he will be hoping to benefit from any squad rotation.
Tayo Edun, Anthony Scully and Theo Archibald are among the others hoping to be rotated into the starting lineup here.
Liverpool FC team news vs Lincoln City
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a knee injury in pre-season. He will play no part on Thursday with the club yet to confirm the exact length of time he is expected to be out.
Joel Matip has been ruled out with a few weeks due to injury.
“With Joel, it could be slightly different. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but a few weeks, probably after the international break he will be ready again.”
– Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool Manager
Jordan Henderson (pictured above) missed pre-season for Liverpool with an injury. He made his first start of the season at Chelsea, but only lasted 45 minutes of the match. He was withdrawn with a tight thigh muscle and replaced with Thiago Alcantara. He is likely to be rested here regardless.
Joe Gomez missed the match at the weekend due to a knee injury. Klopp has confirmed he should be fine to play although, like Henderson, they are unlikely to risk him. Expect two from Nat Phillips, Billy Koumetio and Sepp van den Berg to start.
Xherdan Shaqiri could make a surprise appearance here. He didn’t play any part in pre-season with a muscular injury but has now returned to training.
Like last season, Klopp is expected to use the domestic cups to give the kids and fringe players minutes on the pitch. Therefore, none of those who started at the weekend will likely be involved here.
