Can Leicester City kick-start their underwhelming season?

The Foxes strolled through to the round of 32 in this competition 12 months ago but are having to fight for their knockout phase place this time.

Brendan Rodgers’ team have just five points on the board, drawing their two home games so far and losing the reverse fixture in Warsaw.

Their only win came in a crazy, chaotic game in Moscow in which they beat Spartak 4-3 thanks to Patson Daka scoring no less than four times in 34 minutes.

A fortnight later, they welcomed the Russian side to the King Power but fell behind just after half time.

Daniel Amartey equalised with a header seven minutes later but substitute Jamie Vardy squandered the chance to win it, seeing a tame late penalty saved.

This leaves Leicester third in Group C, one point above Spartak, one behind Legia and two adrift leaders Napoli.

It could hardly be tighter but this game is huge considering they conclude the campaign at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on matchday six.

But Leicester’s inconsistency hasn’t been confined to just the Europa League.

On Saturday, they were easily beaten by Premier League leaders Chelsea at home, losing 3-0 but, in all honesty, it could’ve been five or six.

This leaves them down in 12th place having won just two of their last nine league outings.

Will Rodgers’ side climb into the top two places in this group and, possibly, ignite some life into their flailing campaign?

Will Legia enjoy a win in England?

However, if Leicester fans think their side is struggling domestically, they should have at look at what’s going on at Legia Warszawa.

The Militarians are Poland’s most successive club having won 15 titles, winning the league in seven of the last nine seasons, including last year.

To get this far in the Europa League, their first group stage appearance since 2016, they beat Bodø/Glimt, Flora Tallinn and then Slavia Praha in qualifiers.

But, right now, Legia are 17th in the Ekstraklasa, only above bottom of the table Górnik Łęczna on goal difference.

On Sunday, Legia were beaten 3-2 by Górnik Zabrze, conceding a 96th minute winner at Arena Zabrze.

So, they’ve now lost seven league games in a row, dating all the way back to 19 September, and are 22 points behind leaders Lech Poznań.

This certainly isn’t what you expect from a club who’ve dominated their domestic league in the last decade.

They were last relegated in 1936 and, just a few months ago, the suggestion that they’d go down this year would’ve been fanciful.

But, the way things are going, it’s not out of the question.

Since Leicester’s visit to Warsaw, unsurprisingly, Czesław Michniewicz has been sacked as Head Coach but Marek Gołębiewski has been unable to arrest their slide.

Despite all of that, Legia Warszawa are actually above Leicester in Europa League Group C and a win in England could see them qualify for the knockout stages.

Legia won their first two games in this group, beating Spartak at Otkritie Arena before a 1-0 win over Leicester in the reverse fixture.

Lirim Kastrati with a stoppage time winner in Moskva while Mahir Emreli fired home the only goal at Stadion Wojska Polskiego.

Since, their European form has been more aligned with their performances in the Ekstraklasa, losing 3-0 and then 4-1 to Napoli.

So, despite the result at the Polish Army Stadium, everything points towards at Leicester win this time.

Will the Foxes beat the side currently the 17th best in Poland?

Brendan Rodgers has been changing formations and personnel this season, attempting to land upon that all important winning formulae.

Captain Kasper Schmeichel though has stared every game this season, aside from the Carabao Cup, and that’ll continue here.

At the back, in the absence of Wesley Fofana and James Justin, they’ve really had serious issues.

Jonny Evans could be rested with Jannik Vestergaard coming in alongside Daniel Amartey and Çağlar Söyüncü who’s really struggling for form.

Without Ricardo Pereira, Marc Albrighton filled in at right-wing-back against Chelsea and could continue in that role here.

Youri Tielemans also missed Saturday’s defeat due to a knock and his absence was obvious; it remains to be seen when he’ll be back.

Without him, it’ll be the same duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Boubakary Soumaré in the middle.

Further forward, James Maddison could return, looking to feed the strike partnership of Patson Daka and Kelechi Ịheanachọ.

This would see Harvey Barnes, Ademola Lookman and Jamie Vardy, who all started at the weekend, drop to the bench.

Daka is actually Leicester’s joint-leading goalscorer in European competitions of all time, alongside Vardy, despite all of his goals coming in one game.

Will Leicester have too much for this generally hopeless Legia?

Marek Gołębiewski’s side will surely travel to the East Midlands with no confidence at all given their results this season.

For one, they’ve used four different goalkeepers already this season, with 41 year old Artur Boruc having starting 13 games.

But, more recently, Kacper Tobiasz and then Cezary Miszta have been handed the gloves and the latter is likely to start here.

At the back, they’ve largely used a back three and that’s likely to be the case here with Artur Jędrzejczyk captaining the side.

Lindsay Rose would become the first player from Mauritius to play in a major UEFA club competition if he features.

At right-wing-back, they’re short of options so Yuri Ribeiro, who usually plays on the left, is having to fill in.

In midfield Josué is suspended due to yellow card accumulation; he’s been booked three times in group stages this season.

Without him, André Martins could return at the base of midfield.

Former Leicester winger Bartosz Kapustka is a long-term injury absence.

Up front, Ernest Muçi’s goal at the weekend could see him get the nod alongside Mahir Emreli.

Luquinhas, Rafael Lopes, Szymon Włodarczyk and Tomáš Pekhart are the other attacking options.

Will Legia upset the odds and book their place in the Europa League last 32?
