Recommended bets

Junior Firpo first player to be carded – 7/1

The left-back has been somewhat underwhelming since joining Leeds from Barcelona. In 25 appearances he has 10 yellow cards, including one after five minutes in the reverse fixture.

Leeds to be shown over two cards and BTTS (yes) – 13/5 (via bet365 BetBuilder)

Leeds have recorded the worst discipline in Premier League history with over 100 cards shown over the course of the season. With their desperation for a result, expect that to continue and goals to go in at both ends.

Match preview

It is almost last chance saloon for Leeds, who have drifted into the bottom three after a run of three games without a point.

The vultures appear to be circling for Jesse Marsch and his side after improved runs for Everton and Burnley left Leeds facing the threat of relegation in just their second year back in the Premier League.

The most concerning aspect for Leeds fans is around the style of play from a side that was so buccaneering and aggressive under predecessor Marcelo Bielsa, with Marsch’s side apparently devoid of inspiration up front, lacking confidence in possession and undisciplined without the ball, leaving fans devoid of hope or expectation.

Such has been the drop-off in performances under Marsch that there is a general acceptance among fans that they are destined for relegation, despite winnable games against Brighton and Brentford to finish the season.

With Burnley facing a tough run-in, Leeds know a win at home to the Seagulls represents their best chance of survival despite an historically ropey record against Graham Potter’s side, although the nature of the performance against Chelsea means there is a lot of work to do if they want to turn things around.

On top of the pressure of relegation, Leeds are facing another injury crisis with Jack Harrison and Raphinha limping off on Wednesday night and Pat Bamford struggling to make it back in time to provide a much-needed boost.

It is looking like an uphill battle for the Whites against a Brighton side who have won four of their last six matches and beaten them twice in their last three meetings.

Leeds United team news

Dan James joins Luke Ayling in the stands after Leeds were shown their second successive red card, with the winger also out for the rest of the season.

Raphinha and Jack Harrison both limped off in the defeat to Chelsea but are expected to make it, but Pat Bamford is rated as highly doubtful. Stuart Dallas and Adam Forshaw are among the key absentees.

Brighton & Hove Albion team news

Graham Potter will take the same squad to West Yorkshire that he had in the 4-0 win over Manchester United.

Enock Mwepu is likely to return for the final game of the season but is not yet ready, while Jakub Moder and Jeremy Sarmiento are also nearing returns but not yet ready.
