Kilmarnock vs Rangers betting tips: Scottish League Cup match preview and predictions

Kilmarnock vs Rangers prediction: Kilmarnock 1-3 Rangers

This is, for sure, the tie of the round.

Due to their European commitments, Rangers begin their cup adventure in this round but this is defiantly the hardest tie they could have drawn.

Kilmarnock battled hard in July to get through the group stages; they ended up as one of the unseeded teams and will be relishing the chance to take on Rangers.

Will there be a Cup upset at Rugby Park?

Kilmarnock vs Rangers: Who will win?

Kilmarnock may be the underdogs but aren’t as much of a long shot as people might think.

They’re 7/2 to win in 90 minutes and just 2/1 to qualify.

Rangers are 3/4 to get through in 90 minutes and 4/11 to make the quarter finals.

Either team to win a penalty shootout is 13/2.

It could be an entertaining game and over 2.5 goals is 4/5.

Now 34 years old, Rangers legend Kris Boyd leads the line for Kilmarnock as captain these days.

He scored 23 goals last season and already has 3 this campaign; he is 11/2 to score first and 15/8 to score anytime.

Alfredo Morelos is Rangers’ top scorer so far this season with 3 already.

The Colombian is 7/2 to score first and 5/4 to score anytime.

Both Morelos and Boyd to score is 5/1.

Kilmarnock vs Rangers: Match preview

Last season was an exceptional one for Kilmarnock.

Former West Brom and Reading manager Steve Clarke took over in October with the club struggling near the bottom end of the table.

He completely changed their fortunes.

They ended up finishing fifth which was an incredible achievement on a tiny budget.

This season has started brightly too.

A draw with St Mirren was followed by wins over Dumbarton, Spartans and Queen’s Park saw them top their League Cup group to set up this tie.

They beat St Johnstone on the opening day of the SPFL season and followed that up with a steady 0-0 draw with Livingston last Saturday.

Everyone at Killie is desperate for another Cup run so can they knock out the 27 League Cup winners?

It’s been a magnificent start to the season for Rangers too.

A brilliant performance at Pittodrie didn’t get the result it deserved in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.

However, they bounced back and got their first league win of the new era last weekend by beating St Mirren 2-0 at Ibrox.

They’ve also been going really well in Europe.

They’ve knocked out Shkupi, Osijek and on Thursday finished the job against Slovenian side Maribor.

They’ll now play FC Ufa from Russia for a place in the Europa League group stages; the first leg of that is at Ibrox this forthcoming Thursday.

However, all that positivity will be forgotten if they crash out at Rugby Park.

Rangers are in the midst of their longest trophy drought since 1910 and will see this competition as a great chance to end that.

Will the fact they were playing away in Slovenia as recently as Thursday night hinder them in what will be a tough cup tie?

Kilmarnock team news vs Rangers

Killie only have one player unavailable for selection.

Young midfielder Adam Frizzell had a knee operation over the summer and is still recovering.

Aside from that Steve Clarke has a fully fit squad at his disposal.

Mikael Ndjoli has impressed since moving on loan from Bournemouth and could cause problems.

But it’s all about captain Kris Boyd.

His 68 goals in 160 appearances for Kilmarnock proves he’s still got it and he’d love to get a goal or two against the side he made 212 appearances for.

Rangers team news vs Kilmarnock
