It’s safe to say this fixture, and the Scottish Premiership more broadly, have been dominated by Rangers this season.

On 7 March, the Gers were confirmed as champions which is the earliest a Scottish champion has been declared since 1902/03 when Hibernian won the title on 20 December with two of 22 matches remaining.

This is Rangers’ 55th titles overall but their first for a decade, in which time they’ve suffered liquidation and had to start at the bottom of the SPFL pyramid.

Thus, it’s been a long way back but, at the third attempt, Steven Gerrard has delivered the title.

Rangers are actually unbeaten in the Premiership this season, winning 29 of their 35 matches, a record they’ll aim to cement for the rest of the season.

After this, they travel to Tony Macaroni Arena to face Livingston before hosting Aberdeen which is when they’ll be presented with the trophy.

The Teddy Bears’ supremacy has been confirmed in Old Firm matches too.

They won the first two, 2-0 at Parkhead and 1-0 at Ibrox, before the two clubs drew 1-1 at Celtic Park in the first game after the title was confirmed.

Then, the two met in the Scottish Cup fourth round just a fortnight ago with Rangers winning again, also 2-0, with Steven Davis scoring a sublime overhead kick.

In the second half, Allan McGregor saved an Odsonne Édouard penalty to secure the win.

This means Davis has scored against Celtic in three different decades and McGregor has saved a penalty against Celtic in three different decades.

However, Rangers didn’t get much further in that competition.

Last weekend, they were frustrated by St Johnstone but thought they’d won it through James Tavernier’s header in the 26th minute of extra time.

However, in the 122nd minute, the Saints equalised to force a penalty shootout.

Both Tavernier and Kemar Roofe saw their efforts saved as Rangers crashed out of the Scottish Cup.

So, all they have left to focus on is preserving their unbeaten status in the league.

The Gers are unbeaten in five Old Firms, winning four of them, last boasting a record this good in 2006-08.

They last avoided defeat in six successive Glasgow Derbies between 1995 and 1997 when they were unbeaten in ten in a row.

Will Glasgow be blue and white once again?

Can Celtic avoid a blue and whitewash?

From a Celtic point of view, this season has been a catastrophe.

That Scottish Cup defeat at Ibrox confirmed this as Celtic’s first trophyless season since 2009/10.

It’s the first time since 1963/64 that the Hoops have failed to win the league or reach the semi-final of a cup competition.

It’s the first time since 1949/650 that they’ve failed to win the league or reach the quarter-final of a cup competition.

It’s also the first time ever that both Celtic and Rangers have failed to reach the semi-finals of both domestic cup competitions.

These cup defeats, and their abysmal performance in Europe, would have all been forgotten if Celtic had been able to secure the historic ten-in-a-row.

However, the Celts haven’t been top of the table since week one of the season and are currently 20 points behind.

Rangers last won the title by this amount of points or more in 1999/00: 21 points.

So, all eyes are on next season at Parkhead.

First, owner Dermot Desmond, Chairman Ian Bankier and the new Chief Executive Dominic McKay need to appoint the right manager.

Despite the fact Neil Lennon left the club back on 24 February, it remains to be seen who this’ll be.

Then, the new man’s focus will be on their first game on next season which is pivotal as it’s in the Champions League second qualifying round.

They’ll play the runners-up from either Netherlands, Turkey, Austria, Denmark or Czech Republic.

Can Celtic end this season with a much-needed moral boost?

Despite the fact this is essentially a dead rubber, with no cup commitments any more, Steven Gerrard will pick his strongest team for this derby.

Allan McGregor will continue in goal, looking to add to his 21 clean sheets in 40 appearances this season.

At right-back, captain and top scorer James Tavernier is back after a two month injury layoff.

This is just as well as his deputy, Nathan Patterson, is suspended after breaking Covid-19 protocols.

Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Borna Barišić will make up a settled back four with Leon Balogun and Nikola Katić injured.

Jack Simpson, who joined from Bournemouth in January, appeared in Rangers’ last two games but is unlikely to featured.

Glen Kamara will anchor midfield alongside Steven Davis, a scorer in this fixture a fortnight ago, with Joe Aribo more advanced.

Ryan Jack’s injury is going to see him miss Euro 2020.

Out wide, Kemar Roofe could displace Ianis Hagi with Ryan Kent keeping his place on the other flank.

Alfredo Morelos who, finally, scored his first Glasgow Derby goal last month, will lead the attack.

January arrival from Aberdeen, Scott Wright, has impressed of late, scoring his first Rangers goal at McDiarmid Park ten days ago.

However, he’ll be a substitute alongside other attacking options Jermain Defoe, Cedric Itten and Greg Stewart.

Will Rangers beat their great rivals yet again?

For the away side, John Kennedy will be desperate to win and Old Firm at interim Head Coach at the third attempt.

Scott Bain will continue in goal.

The goalkeeper department needs improving this summer after Vasilis Barkas hasn’t impressed since joining from AEK Athens last summer.

The same could be said about centre-back.

Kristoffer Ajer will return after missing the trip to Aberdeen and could have Nir Bitton alongside with Stephen Welsh missing out.

Bitton was sent off at Ibrox in the 1-0 defeat on 2 January and hasn’t featured much since.

However, Celtic have limited options in that position with Christopher Jullien out with a long-term injury and Shane Duffy set to return to Brighton & Hove Albion after a very underwhelming loan spell.

At left-back, Joe Aribo ran rings around Diego Laxalt a fortnight ago so Greg Taylor will start this time.

On the other side, Everton loanee Jonjoe Kenny is the only option after Hatem Abd Elhamed and Jeremie Frimpong both left in January.

In midfield, Kennedy is likely to persist with a diamond.

Scott Brown will be at the base, playing in his 50th and final Old Firm before he joins Aberdeen as a player/coach.

Either side of him will be Callum McGregor and David Turnbull with Ryan Christie in the more advanced midfield position.

Ismaila Soro and Tom Rogic would be on the bench; James Forrest could return after suffering a relapse his injury.

Up front, Mohamed Elyounoussi, on loan from Southampton, and Odsonne Édouard will keep their places.

Will either of those two be at the club next season? It seem unlikely.

Leigh Griffiths, who scored a stoppage time equaliser at Aberdeen ten days ago, Albian Ajeti and Karamoko Dembélé are other attacking alternatives.

Patryk Klimala is not though after joining New York Red Bulls for £3.5 million on 22 April.

Will Celtic beat Rangers for the first time since the League Cup Final on 8 December 2019?
