Everton vs Southampton: Match preview
Everton suffered a worrying 4-0 defeat to Manchester United during pre-season, which will not have done their confidence any good.
Rafa Benitez is already under pressure to quickly bring results given his previous links to bitter rivals Liverpool.
The Toffees were rocked by the loss of Carlo Ancelotti over the summer, with the Italian having returned to Real Madrid.
Benitez is now tasked with trying to improve upon last season’s 10th place finish.
Everton have made very few waves in the transfer window, recruiting only Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend and Asmir Begovic.
Southampton are also having a very tough transfer window, having lost both Danny Ings and Jannick Vestergaard.
Ings completed a shock move to Aston Villa, whilst Vestergaard joined Leicester City for just £15M.
Adam Armstrong is the player who was signed to replace Ings, and he has big boots to fill, with the now-Villa man having netted 12 league goals last season.
The Saints had a really poor campaign last time out, as they ended up finishing 15th.
Southampton ended the season suffering 10 defeats in their last 12 Premier League matches.

Sam McQueen and William Smallbone both remain sidelined due to injury.
