Denmark welcomes England to the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Tuesday for this UEFA Nations League match.

They two are no stranger to each other, with this being the 19th meeting between the two nations. However, it will be the first match between them since 2011 and the first competitive match since the 2002 World Cup.

England eliminated Denmark from the final sixteen of the 2002 World Cup with a 3-0 win. All three goals came in the first half, with Rio Ferdinand heading in a David Beckham corner in the opening minutes to set things off. Michael Owen and Emile Heskey added further goals to make sure of the win.

Unsurprisingly, England dominates the head-to-head against Denmark, with thirteen wins to three. In competitive action, their record reads five English wins, two draws and one victory for Denmark.

Denmark vs England: What are the betting odds?

Denmark have won two of the last three matches between the nations. However, their poor performance in the 0-2 defeat against Belgium has them as massive outsiders to win here at 14/5.

Two of the last four competitive matches between England and Denmark have ended in a stalemate. Odds of 5/2 are available if you see them cancelling each other out here.

England won 1-2 on their last visit to Denmark back in 2011. They also got their Nations League campaign off to a winning start against Iceland on Saturday. England are 19/20 to make it two wins from two in Copenhagen on Tuesday.

Denmark vs England: Recommended bets

101 Great Goals’ prediction of 0 – 2 is available at odds of 9/1.

England’s last trip to Copenhagen ended in a 1-2 win for them. Odds of 15/2 are available for the same result on Tuesday.

The last competitive match between them ended 0-3 to England in the 2002 World Cup. They are 16/1 to stick three past the Danes without reply here.

Denmark handed out a 4-1 thrashing to England here back in 2005. Odds of 66/1 reflect the likelihood of that same result repeating itself.

Both teams struggled in attack in their opening Nations League games. Odds of 10/11 are available if you see that trend continuing with another game under 2.5 goals here.

Denmark vs England: Match preview

If you enjoy open, free-flowing games with plenty of action at both ends of the pitch, this probably won’t be the match for you.

Kasper Hjulmand’s Denmark are an extremely difficult side to break down. They have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven matches and have played out seven 0-0 draws in their last twenty-four matches.

They will aim to sit in a very compact 4-3-3 shape on the edge of their box and aim to frustrate England’s attempts to play through them. Instead, forcing them to use to flanks to create opportunities.

It is the same gameplan Iceland had for Saturday’s match against England, which worked for ninety minutes. England finally needed a penalty to help break the deadlock in the 91st minute.

“We had probably the most creative players in English football on the pitch but everybody has to understand that players, whether they’ve had a two-week break or they’re into their pre-season period, that sharpness in the final third is going to be the last bit to come, so against a really stubborn, packed defence it’s a difficult challenge.”

– England Manager, Gareth Southgate

Without a recognised left-footed full-back in the squad, this tactic will continue to prove very effective against England.

One plus point though is the return from injury of Trent Alexander-Arnold. There is no better full-back in the world at creating from the flanks, as demonstrated by the fact that Kevin de Bruyne is the only Premier League player that has more assists than him in the previous two seasons combined. Trent looks set to start here due to Kyle Walker’s suspension.

Denmark team news vs England

Andreas Skov Olsen was expected to make his debut for Denmark in these Nations League games. However, he has withdrawn from the squad and will need to shelve plans of his debut for the time being.

After a poor showing against Belgium before being replaced, both Martin Braithwaite and Kasper Dolberg are favourites to be rotated out of the starting XI here. Jacob Bruun Larsen and Andreas Cornelius are the players most likely to replace them.

England team news vs Denmark

The absence of Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is the main talking point regarding England. He has been excluded from the squad following his arrest for assault and bribery of police officers in Greece, for which he was subsequently found guilty. He has been replaced in the squad by Conor Coady.

Marcus Rashford has also been forced to withdraw due to injury. He was struggling with an ankle injury towards the end of last season, and took to social media this week to state explain these games came a little too soon for him to be involved. Rashford has been replaced by Jack Grealish.

Harry Winks has also needed to withdraw from the squad. That he was not forthcoming with a reason on social media has led to speculation he is trying to arrange a transfer away from Tottenham Hotspur. Winks has been linked with a move to both Manchester clubs in the past.

Following his red card at the weekend, Kyle Walker will miss out on this one. Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to replace him here.
