Date: June 9, 2021

Kick-off time: 2:30 am, June 9, 2021 (UK time)

Betting prediction: Chile 2-1 Bolivia

Chile have only won one of their opening five World Cup qualifying matches and will need to kick things up a notch if they are to qualify for next year’s showpiece tournament in Qatar.

Bolivia have failed to win any of their last 13 away matches – a run stretching back to a 3-0 win over Myanmar in 2018.

In comparison to their opponents, Chile’s squad is littered with high-profile players who play their club football in Europe – on paper this should be a straightforward match.

Chile vs Bolivia: Match preview

Chile host Bolivia at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Both sides have only won one of their opening five matches. Chile are 7th in the standings on five points. They held Argentina to a 1-1 draw last week. Alexis Sanchez’s equaliser canceled out Lionel Messi’s penalty opener.

Bolivia are one place and one point behind Chile. They picked up their first win last week, beating Venezuela 3-1 in La Paz. Marcelo Martins scored a brace while Diego Bejarano also got his name on the score sheet. The victory ended a run of six matches without a win.

Depending on other results, a win for either side could be enough to lift them into at least the play-off spot. The top four teams in the CONMEBOL league will qualify for the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, while the team that finishes 5th will advance to an inter-confederation play-off.

Chile did not qualify for the 2018 World Cup although they made it to the round of 16 at both the 2014 and 2010 editions.

Bolivia have only played at three World Cup finals tournaments, most recently in 1994 in the United States.

Chile have a phenomenal record against Bolivia, winning 30, drawing nine and losing just seven of their 46 encounters. Bolivia have only beaten Chile once since 2001.

The two sides met earlier this year in an international friendly in Rancagua. Chile won the match 2-1 with all three goals being scored inside the opening 20 minutes. Luis Jimenez opened the scoring before Marcelo Moreno equalised. Jean Meneses scored the winning goal two minutes later.

Chile team news vs Bolivia
