Match: Brighton vs Blackpool
Competition: FA Cup
Date: January 23, 2021
Kick-off time: 3:00 pm, January 23, 2021 (UK time)
Stadium: American Express Community Stadium
Betting prediction: Brighton 2-0 Blackpool
Despite some praise Graham Potter has received over the years, Brighton find themselves struggling to score goals consistently in the Premier League. High-scoring affairs against Wolves (3-3), West Ham (2-2) and Manchester United (2-3) demonstrate that they can find the back of the net, but their failure to score more than a single goal in twenty of their twenty-five matches across all competitions speaks to an unsustainable reliance on center-forward Neal Maupay.
Still, the Seagulls should have enough to see off a Blackpool side that sit in the bottom-half of League One. The Bloomfield Road outfit have just one win in their last six league outings, but will be bolstered by their penalty shootout win in the FA Cup third round against West Brom.
Brighton vs Blackpool: Recommended bets
Under 2.5 goals scored. Both sides lack any measure of consistency in front of goal, and with Albion’s poor performance against Newport County, there is no guarantee they’ll set the world alight this weekend.
Neal Maupay to score first. If Maupay doesn’t bag a goal, Albion struggle to garner a result. The French centre forward is the only Seagulls player to have more than two goals this season.

Brighton vs Blackpool: Match preview
Brighton are in need of something special this season. The Seagulls have registered just three wins in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign, managing only twenty-two goals in nineteen matches in the process.
The south coast-side reside in 16th in the table, five points clear of the relegation zone but with two more matches played than both Burnley (17th) and Fulham (18th).
Much more should be – and is – expected, however. On paper, Potters’ troops do have quality in all areas of the pitch. The likes of the aforementioned Maupay, Leandro Trossard, and Davy Pröpper are supported by additional talent in Pascal Groß, Adam Connelly, and the highly-touted pair of Yves Bissouma and Tariq Lamptey. A good result against Blackpool could set the Seagulls up for a potential run of domestic form to alleviate their current situation.
As for Blackpool, the Seasiders are a far cry from where they were back in 2011. From stumping up a club-record fee for Charlie Austin to League Two in five years. Now up to League One, Blackpool are trying to once again establish themselves as a club on a come-up. After a poor start to their league campaign, Blackpool won seven out of ten over a two-month period from October to mid way through December, but have since failed to haul a full three points.
Just like their adversaries at the weekend, Blackpool struggle for goals to the tune of twenty-one in twenty-one league fixtures. But their ability to defend (24 goals allowed) could provide a useful platform against stronger opposition.
Brighton team news vs Blackpool
Graham Potter remains unable to select José Izquierdo, Florin Andone, and Danny Welbeck.
Young sensation Tariq Lamptey & veteran Adam Lallana may not be pressed into service ahead of a key midweek Premier League fixture against Fulham on the 26th.
After receiving minutes against both Newport Country and a start against Manchester City, Percy Tau could be given additional time at the weekend to fight for a starting for the Seagulls.
Blackpool team news vs Brighton
Neil Critchley has a near-full strength squad to choose from for their trip to the south coast, with just CJ Hamilton being the only question mark.
Blackpool could also be bolstered by January loan-signing Ellis Simms from Everton. Prolific in front of goal at youth level, the Toffee’s academy product could be in-line to make the bench to bolster Critchley’s depth options.
