Ballon d’Or 2018 betting: Cristiano Ronaldo clear favourite after World Cup

Who will win the Ballon d’Or 2018?

The World Cup was a huge success for Cristiano Ronaldo!

Wait… what?!

Well, we all know how much Ronaldo covets winning the Ballon d’Or. And, the Portuguese superstar will surely absolutely love to have one more than Leo Messi.

Which now looks the likeliest scenario after a World Cup in which Ronaldo and Portugal were dumped out in the last 16 by Uruguay and Edinson Cavani.

A sixth Ballon d’Or is incoming for Cristiano Ronaldo!

Ultimately, no one in Russia during the World Cup did enough to oust Ronaldo from the podium.

Leo Messi may have won the Spanish domestic double, but Ronaldo (and Real Madrid) won the Champions League.

Thank you!

It was the third Champions League in succession for Ronaldo (and Real Madrid) and it looks like all those goal scoring records that were smashed in 2017/2018 leads to another Ballon d’Or.

Crucially, you have to side with the bookies regarding the new Juventus attacker, since there is effectively no important silverware to be decided before the end of the calendar year.

Luka Modric for the Ballon d’Or!

We believe Luka Modric should win the Ballon d’Or.

Football is not all about scoring goals and Modric has been a midfielder of some quality for so long, that he should be recognised at an individual level.

So sure are we that Luka Modric should win this prestigious individual award, after taking tiny Croatia to the World Cup final and winning the Champions League with Real Madrid, that we made this image for social media:

Somewhat unsurprisingly, if the bookies are to be believed, Modric will miss out on the Ballon d’Or.

Modric is 4/1 for the Ballon d’Or.

Mbappe and Modric

Could the Ballon d’Or go the way of the World Cup Golden Ball for Luka Modric?

Something to bear in mind with regards to Modric and what could be his long odds for the Ballon d’Or 2018.

Going into the World Cup final, Kylian Mbappe was the favourite to win the World Cup Golden Ball. Handed out to the best player of the tournament.

However, after scoring in the final, Mbappe was handed the World Cup Young Player awarded, and the world got to see Modric recognised for his brilliance.

Could we see a similar scenario play out in the Ballon d’Or voting? It seems very possible and if so Modric’s 4/1 odds look rather attractive.

What about a France World Cup winner for Ballon d’Or 2018 betting?

France may be celebrating today and can rightfully call themselves the best international side in the world.

However, it seems very unlikely that any of their star players will be holding the Ballon d’Or on the France Football front cover by the end of the calendar year.

Sensational teenager Kylian Mbappe is 9/1 and Antoine Griezmann much longer odds at 20/1.

Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane for the Ballon d’Or 2018!

The one France player who really should have a shout is Raphael Varane.

The central defender won the Champions League and the World Cup in the same year. Yet, is placed at 25/1 in Ballon d’Or betting by most bookies.

An open race is illustrated by Leo Messi (12/1), Harry Kane (16/1) and Mohamed Salah (16/1) still just about being in the mix.

Still Messi & Ronaldo since 2007

Much has been written in recent days about the highest echelons of football seeing a change of the guard.

But, when it comes to the Ballon d’Or, Cristiano Ronaldo’s odds suggest the old order will remain.

And, we will be waiting for a different Ballon d’Or winner to Messi and Ronaldo going into late 2019.

The last non Messi or Ronaldo winner was Kaka all the way back in 2007. Madness.
