Arsenal vs Manchester City: Match details
Match: Arsenal vs Manchester City
Competition: Carabao Cup (EFL Cup)
Date: December 22, 2020
Kick-off time: 8:00 pm, December 22, 2020 (UK time)
Stadium: Emirates Stadium
Betting prediction: Arsenal 0-1 Manchester City
Arsenal are a club in crisis. No wins in their last seven Premier League matches. One win in their last 10. Mikel Arteta’s side have at least performed well in cup competitions so far this season.
By their own lofty standards, Manchester City aren’t having a great season either and find themselves 7th in the table.
Much like the FA Cup is Arsenal’s competition, the Carabao Cup is Manchester City’s. They have won the competition three seasons in a row, and five times in the last seven years.
While this tournament is not a priority for the Gunners, a home victory could help to stop the rot – especially since there’s no Europa League action until mid-February.
Arsenal vs Manchester City: Recommended bets
Manchester City to keep a clean sheet. Manchester City have kept seven clean sheets in their last eight matches in all competitions.
Phil Foden to score. Foden started and scored in Man City’s third-round win over Bournemouth and is expected to start on Tuesday.

Arsenal vs Manchester City: Carabao Cup quarter-final preview
Arsenal welcome Manchester City to the Emirates for their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash on Tuesday.
Arsenal suffered another defeat on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park. After going behind via a Rob Holding own goal, Arsenal equalised through a Nicolas Pepe penalty. Everton were back in front 10 minutes later.
Arsenal are 15th in the table with 14 points from their 14 matches. They have lost five of their last seven league matches and have only won one of their last 10.
While the picture looks grim domestically, Arsenal have performed well in cup competition. The Gunners have won nine out of nine in the cups this season – including a Community Shield victory over Liverpool and six wins in the Europa League group stage.
Arsenal beat Leicester 2-0 away from home in the 2nd round, following that up with a penalty shootout win at Anfield in the third round.
Manchester City’s route to the last eight has been a little kinder, with home and away ties against Bournemouth (2-1) and Burnley (3-0).
Manchester City moved up to 7th on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 away win at Southampton. Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game. Man City are now unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions.
Mikel Arteta faced his former side on Saturday. On Tuesday he’ll be facing his former boss, Pep Guardiola. Arteta worked under Pep as his assistant at Manchester City from 2016 until his Arsenal appointment last year.
Manchester City beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Etihad when the sides met in the league in October. Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game.
Arsenal did beat City 2-0 in the FA Cup semi-final last season, going on to win the tournament. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace that day at Wembley.
City have won seven of their last eight matches against Arsenal in all competitions.
Arsenal team news vs Manchester City
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang missed Saturday’s defeat due to a calf injury. “He will be out for a few days I think”, Arteta said, suggesting he may be fit for Tuesday’s clash.
Despite being a quarter-final, there’s bound to be some rotation from Mikel Arteta. Cedric Soares, Sead Kolasinac, Joe Willock, and Eddie Nketiah started Arsenal’s last Carabao Cup game in October. This time around, Pablo Mari, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe, and Folarin Balogun will all be eyeing much-needed game time.
Granit Xhaka serves the third and final match of his three-game suspension. Xhaka was shown a straight red card against Burnley for grabbing the neck of Ashley Westwood.
Gabriel Magalhaes is available again after serving a one-match ban. Speaking of suspensions, Dani Ceballos was mightily lucky to escape a red card for a foul on Yerry Mina.
Arsenal will be hoping to have Reiss Nelson available. The winger has missed the last few matches with a head injury.
Thomas Partey is likely to miss out again with a hamstring injury.
Manchester City team news vs Arsenal
Pep Guardiola is set to make a number of changes to his starting eleven.
Sergio Aguero and Oleksandr Zinchenko were unused substitutes against Southampton and should be involved here. Phil Foden, Fernandinho, Benjamine Mendy, Nathan Ake could also be handed recalls.
18-year-old Cole Palmer and American goalkeeper Zack Steffen started Man City’s Carabao Cup game against Burnley in September. Taylor Harwood-Bellis was also involved from the bench on that occasion.
Gabriel Jesus has a knock and, even if fit, is not likely to be risked for this.
Aymeric Laporte is another doubt, while Eric Garcia is sidelined until the new year.
