Arsenal vs CSKA Moscow: Europa League quarterfinal preview

Arsenal recorded back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since November following Sunday’s 3-0 home win over Stoke. After a poor first half showing, the Gunners opened the floodgates in the final 15 minutes with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (2) and Alexandre Lacazette scoring the goals.

Arsene Wenger’s side, who remain 6th in the Premier League table, have now won four consecutive matches in all competitions, conceding only one goal in that period. Included in that run is Arsenal’s 5-1 aggregate victory over Milan in the previous round of the Europa League.

CSKA progressed to the last eight of the competition on away goals after drawing 3-3 on aggregate against Lyon in the last-16.

Viktor Goncharenko’s side are 3rd in the Russian Premier League, five points behind rivals Lokomotiv.

CSKA also come into the match on the back of four straight wins, including Sunday’s 2-1 win over Rostov. Georgie Shchennikov and Pontus Wernbloom scored for CSKA.

CSKA will need to break the mould if they are to win on Thursday. The Russian side have lost five consecutive matches against English opposition.

The two side drew 0-0 at the Emirates in the 2006/07 season.

The second leg takes place in Moscow on April 12.
