Alashkert vs Celtic match preview

After winning their seventh straight SPFL title and a back to back domestic treble, Celtic will be hoping to build on that success in Scotland and take it into European competition.

As a result of UEFA’s new distribution of Champions League spots, Celtic must now tackle 4 rounds of qualifying, 1 more then they’ve had to face in the past, making it an even more difficult challenge.

Last season they knocked out Linfield of Northern Ireland, Rosenberg from Norway and Kazakhstani Champions Astana.

We could be in for a repeat of last year as the winners of this tie will play either Rosenberg or the Champions of Iceland, Valur Reykjavík.

Celtic played their first pre season friendly of the campaign across the Irish Sea against Shamrock Rovers running out 7-0 winners.

Celtic team news vs Alashkert

The 4 Celts who participated in this summer’s FIFA World Cup are unavailable for this game and for the next few weeks.

Cristian Gamboa’s Costa Rica and Tom Rogic’s Australia went out in the group stage so they will be back with the squad soon.

However, Sweden and Mikael Lustig only went out on Saturday to England and Belgium, featuring Dedryck Boyata. are into the semi finals.

With both right backs, Lustig and Gamboa, unavailable Brendan Rodgers is likely to go with a back 3 system that he played on some occasions last season.

This will also mean they go with two up front as they attempt to take a healthy lead back to Glasgow for the second leg.
