AEK Athens vs Leicester City FC: Match preview
Can AEK Athens bounce back in Group G?
On matchday one, the Greek side were easily beaten 3-0 at Estádio Municipal de Braga.
Massimo Carrera’s side did so well to even reach the group stages this season, beating Swiss side St. Gallen and then German club Wolfsburg in the qualifiers.
Thus, they will not want to be eliminated without a fight.
However, that defeat in Northern Portugal last Thursday now means AEK are winless in their last 14 European matches, excluding qualifiers, and have lost seven in a row.
This is their 11th appearance in a UEFA group stages since 2003 but, only in 2006, 2007 and 2017 have they reached the knockout phase.
This could be viewed as a must-win if they’re to get there this time.
AEK did at least get back to winning ways in the Greek Super League on Sunday.
Karim Ansarifard’s early penalty enough to beat PAS Giannina 1-0 at Zosimades Stadium.
This means they have ten points from five matches with their only defeat thus far coming at Atromitos at the start of this month.
Will AEK get off the mark in the Europa League?
Will Leicester make it two wins out of two?
As for Leicester City, they’re travelling to the Greek capital full of confidence.
On matchday one, goals from Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Kelechi Ịheanachọ saw the Foxes easily overcome Zorya Luhansk 3-0 at home.
That was Leicester’s first UEFA Cup match since Muzzy Izzet scored in a first round defeat to Crvena zvezda in 2000.
Although, to be fair, Leicester have reached the Champions League quarter-finals since then, doing so in 2016/17.
In the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers’ side got a famous victory on Sunday night.
With just ten minutes to go, Cengiz Ünder’s cross picked out Jamie Vardy who nodded home the only goal in a victory at the Emirates.
That is Leicester’s first win away to Arsenal in any competition since 1973.
Overall, Leicester now have 12 points from six league games, despite losing back to back matches before the weekend.
Will they now make it two wins out of two in Europe at Athens Olympic Stadium?

Can AEK pull off a shock?
Panagiotis Tsintotas is the number one these days after Vasilis Barkas left for Celtic in the summer.
Massimo Carrera is likely to stick with the back three he deployed in Braga for added protection.
The experienced Dmytro Chyhrynskyi hobbled off a week ago though so is a doubt.
So, Žiga Laci could come in alongside Ionuț Nedelcearu and Stratos Svarnas.
Hélder Lopes will keep his place at left wing-back with Stavros Vasilantonopoulos expected to return in place of Paulinho on the other side.
In midfield, both André Simões and Damian Szymański are injured; both big losses.
So, Nenad Krstičić will continue alongside Yevhen Shakhov, looking to support captain Petros Mantalos further forward.
In attack, Karim Ansarifard, who scored on Sunday, could continue to be partner by Nélson Oliveira.
Anel Šabanadžović, Marko Livaja, Muamer Tanković and Theodosis Macheras are the other attacking options.
Will AEK beat Leicester in Athens?
Leicester City team news vs AEK Athens
As for Leicester City, given that the games are coming thick and fast, Brendan Rodgers will continue to rotate his squad.
Kasper Schmeichel will continue in goal; the only game he’s missed so far was in the Carabao Cup.
In defence, Leicester are still without long-term absentees Çağlar Söyüncü and Ricardo Pereira.
So, Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana will continue at center-back; title-winning captain Wes Morgan, now 36, is the other option.
Another title winner, Christian Fuchs, will start at left-back with James Justin starting on the other side, allowing Timothy Castagne to get a well-earned rest.
In midfield, the injury problems don’t end as, arguably, their most influential player Wilfred Ndidi is unavailable.
Hamza Choudhury could be rotated in place of Nampalys Mendy as the deepest midfield player.
Ahead of him, James Maddison could drop out with Belgian duo Dennis Praet and Youri Tielemans starting.
On the flanks, Marc Albrighton and Cengiz Ünder, who were both substitutes on Saturday, could come in with Harvey Barnes making way.
The Turkish international Ünder would be starting for the club for the first time after providing the vital assist at the weekend.
Ayoze Pérez is injured.
Jamie Vardy, the man who got on the end of that assist, hasn’t started for Leicester since 4 October and will be back on the bench at best here.
So, Kelechi Ịheanachọ, who scored against Zorya on matchday one, will lead the line again here.
