Aberdeen vs Rangers betting tips: Scottish Premiership match preview and predictions

Aberdeen vs Rangers prediction: Aberdeen 1-1 Rangers

2nd vs 3rd from last season kick off their SPFL campaigns at Pittodrie.

The Dons have finished 2nd in the last 4 seasons and haven’t finished below Rangers since 2012.

These two met in Aberdeen in the penultimate game of last season. That finished as a 1-1 draw, will this one produce a winner?

Aberdeen vs Rangers: Who will win?

This game is a tough one to call.

Aberdeen are 7/4 to get off to the perfect start.

Rangers are 13/8 to win their first league game of the Steven Gerrard era.

The draw is 11/5.

It could be a tight one and under 2.5 goals is 8/11.

Sam Cosgrove, who looked a handful in both legs with Burnley is 6/1 first goalscorer and 2/1 to score anytime.

Alfredo Morelos is going to be relied upon as Rangers’ key source of goals. He’s 9/2 to be first goalscorer and 7/4 to net any time.

Aberdeen vs Rangers: Match preview

Despite the fact that this is the first league game of the season, both sides have already been in competitive action in Europa League qualifiers.

Aberdeen crashed out in the second qualifying round to Burnley on Thursday to end their European dreams. However, forcing the Premier League side all the way to extra time will give them confidence.

Rangers’ intercontinental campaign is still alive though. They’ve beaten Macedonian side Shkupi and, on Thursday, finished the job seeing off Croatian side Osijek.

They’ll now face Slovenian side Maribor in the third qualifying round with the first leg at Ibrox on Thursday.

They can’t look past this game though because all the good feeling around Gerrard’s new team will quickly evaporate if they were to lose their league opener.

Aberdeen team news vs Rangers

There are no fresh injury concerns for Derek McInnes. However, playing 120 minutes at Turf Moor on Thursday will surely take a lot out of Aberdeen.

Tommie Hoban started at Turf Moor on Thursday to help deal with the arial presence that Burnley pose but is unlikely to start in this one.

After the departure of last season’s top scorer, Adam Rooney, goals could be hard to come by for The Dons this season.

Rangers team news vs Aberdeen

Gerrard still has some long term absentees. Wes Foderigham, Lee Wallace, Jordan Rossiter and Graham Dorrans are not expected back for a number of weeks.

They are more hopeful when it comes to Scott Arfield. He did make his debut in the first leg against Shkupi over 3 weeks ago but hasn’t featured since however, was on the bench on Thursday.

Lassana Coulibaly was outstanding on his debut for The Gers in Croatia and will hope to shine again on his league debut.

Two Liverpool loanees, Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria could also make their SPFL bows in this fixture having shone in Croatia.
