Faroe Islands vs Luxembourg betting tips: UEFA Nations League preview, predictions and odds

Luxembourg won their first three meetings with Faroe Islands; the team's last encounter was a goalless draw in a friendly 12 years ago. Five of the six Nations League games played at Tórsvøllur have seen both teams scored, producing 18 goals overall.

Both teams to score is 6/5.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is 2/1.

Luxembourg to win and over 2.5 goals is 10/3.

Danel Sinani now has eight international goals, all coming in the UEFA Nations League. He is 11/2 to break the deadlock and 4/1 to add to his tally.

Match preview

Will Luxembourg make it two wins out of two to kick off this Nations League campaign?

On Saturday evening, Les Lions Rouges began this group by swatting aside Lithuania 2-0 in Vilnius.

Danel Sinani broke the deadlock in first half stoppage time, playing a neat one-two with Yvandro Borges Sanches before lashing home.

Then, the Norwich winger sealed the win with his second of the game late on, finishing cooly after Mathias Olesen's cut-back.

This means Luxembourg have now won seven of 13 Nations League games, also winning thrice during World Cup qualifying last year.

So, Luc Holtz's team are firmly on the up, making them favourites to win this game too.

Faroe Islands meanwhile are competing in League C having won promotion to this level in 2020, topping their group unbeaten with 12 points.

However, based on their group opener, Håkan Ericson's side look set to struggle in this higher division.

On Saturday night, the Landsliðið were demolished 4-0 by group heavyweights Turkey at Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu.

The Faroes were second-best all night, even if two late goals in as many minutes gave the scoreline a more emphatic feel.

This group is really split in two; Turkey and Luxembourg are going for promotion, while Lithuania and the Faroes are fighting against relegation.

Thus, if Luxembourg are to challenge obvious front-runners Turkey for promotion, nothing less than a win at Tórsvøllur will suffice.

Faroe Islands team news

Despite a heavy defeat in İstanbul on Saturday, Håkan Ericson isn't likely to change too much.

Klæmint Olsen is their danger man, having scored ten international goals, all of which have come in the last three years.

Veteran Gunnar Nielsen will continue in goal, looking for his 11th clean sheet on the occasion of his 66th cap.

Luxembourg team news

The reason for Luxembourg's upturn in results in recent years is simple; they've got players playing at a high level all over the world.

Star man Gerson Rodrigues was only on the bench in Vilnius but will start here.

Rodrigues became the first Luxembourgish player to feature in the Champions League group phase in 2019, scoring a famous winner in Dublin last year.

Sébastien Thill meanwhile scored a stunning stoppage time winner as his club FC Sheriff beat Real Madrid at the Bernabéu back in September.

Rodrigues, Thill, Leandro Barreiro and Daniel Sinani, who bagged the brace at the weekend, could form a frightening attacking quartet.

Captain Laurent Jans will return at the back, if fit, alongside 2021 MLS Cup winner Maxime Chanot.
