Basel vs Man United: Champions League preview

Manchester United take on Swiss champions Basel on Wednesday night.

Despite winning all four of their group A matches, Jose Mourinho’s side are yet to seal qualification to the round of 16.

A draw against Basel would confirm their progress, although they’d also qualify if they lost and CSKA Moscow failed to beat bottom side Benfica in the group’s other game.

Man United back to their best

Manchester United looked to be back to their best in the second half of their Premier League match against Newcastle on Saturday. A shaky start saw the Red Devils go 1-0 down early on before going on to win 4-1.

Paul Pogba returned with a goal and an assist, while Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku also netted in the win which keeps United 2nd in the table.

Basel recorded their first win in four matches on Saturday, coming from behind to beat Sion 5-1 at home.

Michael Lang, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Renato Steffen and Kevin Bua (2) all scored for for Raphael Wicky’s side.

United won the reverse fixture 3-0 at Old Trafford in September. Marouane Fellaini, Lukaku and Marcos Rashford scored the goals.
