Algeria vs Uganda betting tips: Africa Cup of Nations qualifier preview, predictions and odds

Algeria are unbeaten in four meetings with Uganda, winning three of them, although the most recent of these was a friendly 19 years ago. The Dessert Foxes were unbeaten in ten competitive matches on home soil before March's last-gasp defeat to Cameroon.

Algeria to win and over 2.5 goals is 6/4. Algeria to win both halves is 21/20.

Match preview

Recently dethroned African Champions Algeria kick off a qualification campaign they ultimately hope will end in glory.

Back in January, the Dessert Foxes travelled to Cameroon looking to retain the trophy they'd lifted 18 months earlier.

However, they accumulated just one point and crashed out in the group stages following a 3-1 drubbing by Côte d'Ivoire.

Then, in March, Djamel Belmadi's side heartbreakingly missed out on World Cup qualification, conceding in the 124th minute against Cameroon.

Despite this double disappointment, the Head Coach that masterminded AFCON and Arab Cup success remains in charge.

So, with one of the most talented squads in African football, Algeria should cruise to qualification from Group F.

Uganda meanwhile will be aiming to take the other top two spot.

The Cranes appeared at back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 and 2019, before being eliminated by Malawi last time round.

This year, Milutin Sredojević's side just have to finish above Tanzania and Niger if they're to return at the next edition.

Here though, anything other than a routine Algeria win at Oran Olympic Stadium will be a major surprise.

Algeria team news

Experienced Qatar-based duo Yacine Brahimi and Baghdad Bounedjah have not been called up for this month's matches.

Nevertheless, Riyāḍ Maḥrez will captain the side, joining Saïd Benrahma in attack.

Ismaël Bennacer will anchor midfield while Ramy Bensebaïni is one-to-watch at left-back.

Uganda team news

Motherwell centre-back Bevis Mugabi will be the defensive fulcrum for Uganda.

Emmanuel Okwi is their main man for goals having scored 28 from 88 caps to date.

Farouk Miya could also start, despite having never played for his current club FC Lviv due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
