France will welcome Denmark to the Stade de France this Thursday as they come in search of their first win in this Nations League campaign with the world champions sitting last and behind Austria by two points after four games.
It’s been a terrible Nations League season for France. The 2018 World Cup winners are also attempting to defend their Nations League crown after defeating Spain in the final of the 2021 edition. However, should France lose here, it will be impossible for them to win the group and therefore, lose their Nations League title.
France were beaten in Paris in both of their last matches on home soil. Now back in Paris, they are coming off the back of 2-1 loss to Denmark in the City of Light, before losing to Croatia 10 days later in the French capital. The only points France have managed to pick up in this season’s Nations League are against Croatia and Austria, both of which have come away from home. In fact, you have to go back to March to see the last time France won a game when they thrashed South Africa 5-0.
Austria have been very hit at miss this time around. They managed to dismantle Croatia back on matchday one in a 3-0 hammering over the 2018 World Cup finalists, although Austria then managed to lose to Denmark twice, despite picking up a commendable point at home to France.
What will give fans hope this time around for Austria is the spectacular form of Marko Arnautovic. The Bologna forward is the top scorer in Serie A with six goals from seven goals which put him ahead of Ciro Immobile by one goal and four ahead of Dusan Vlahovic.
