Nations League action will continue this international break with a battle in League A Group 1 as Denmark and Croatia battle it out at Stadion Maksimir where the Euro 2020 semi-finalists currently sit top and seven clear of World Cup winners France.
Denmark’s lead at the top can’t be ignored, but this is in large parts down to how poor the world champions have been since conquering football’s greatest prize. Denmark managed to beat France back in June on matchday one in the Nations League with Andreas Cornelius bagging a brace in Paris in an excellent display from the Euro 2020 semi-finalists.
Kasper Hjulmand’s side then met with Austria and once again won 2-1 to stay top of the group, as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Jens Stryger Larsen scored a goal each to win it late on in Austria. Denmark’s sole loss has - unfortunately for them - come against Croatia on home soil. Despite beating Austria three days later to go back to the top of the group, it was Mario Pasalic who silenced Parken back in June in a 1-0 smash and grab win for Croatia.
The finalists of the last World Cup are, however, trailing Denmark by two points in this group. They have also managed to stun France in Paris this Nations League campaign, while also drawing with them back on home soil. On the other hand, a crippling 3-0 loss to Austria on the opening day of Nations League action keeps them in second with the potential to head into third if they lose here and Austria beat France.
