A series of videos showcasing the scenes in London this evening have come to the fore online, with things beginning to take a turn for the worse.
The latest edition of the European Championships is of course set to come to a head in the capital shortly.
After navigating their respective paths through the tournament in style, Italy and England will face off at Wembley, for the right to call themselves the continent’s finest international outfit.
The former have proven, in the eyes of many, the standout performers of the summer, having waltzed through the group stage with a perfect three wins from three, before ousting heavyweights Belgium and Spain en route to this evening’s showpiece.

Gareth Southgate’s England, though, have too impressed the masses over the course of the last month.
The Three Lions, like their upcoming opponents, have remained unbeaten to date, with a group stage stalemate with Scotland the only blotch on an otherwise flawless tournament CV.
Chaos in the capital
In turn, a hard-fought, action-packed 90 minutes is widely predicted at Wembley in a couple of hours’ time.
As outlined above, though, as the showpiece occasion inches ever closer to getting underway, things have begun to take a turn for the worse on the streets of London.
What proved a party atmosphere throughout the day thus far has since seen a shift in certain areas, with Leicester square having begun to look more like a war-zone than one primed for potential celebrations:

At least it’s happening in London rather than some other European capital

England in their first major final for 55 years. How do we mark the occasion? I know – let’s hit London and rip up the joint. Absolute clowns. https://t.co/1oLLRBdSdE

Concern is spreading at Wembley itself, too, with groups of supporters having managed to break past the security presence outside the stadium, in an attempt to gain access to the ground itself:
Febrile atmosphere at Wembley. This is near the main entrance to Club Wembley a few minutes ago where it looked like a group of fans broke through the security cordon. Stewards currently chasing people around. Not sure they’ll get all the way to the wine and canapés pic.twitter.com/YTIx8eQLz2

We witnessed this and I stepped away just in time. If this is even crossing your mind, don’t. You don’t get far. Please don’t ruin it for everyone at Wembley. pic.twitter.com/CoNx4U4CHb
