Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold provides fitness update on himself & discusses Euro 2020 disappointment

Trent Alexander-Arnold misses Euro 2020

Much of the chatter surrounding England before Euro 2020 focused on Gareth Southgate’s decision to take four right-backs to the tournament.

This saw all of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James named in the Three Lions’ 26-man squad.

However, before the competition even began, England were forced to drop one of these right-backs.

Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up an injury in a friendly meeting with Austria at the Riverside, and was then forced to depart the England camp, with Southgate having opted to call up Ben White in his place.

Alexander-Arnold update

Alexander-Arnold missing out on Euro 2020 was, obviously, a big blow for both the player and England.

But with the tournament due to finish in a week’s time, Liverpool’s fans are no doubt now hoping that TAA’s injury issue will not be serious enough to see him miss pre-season.

In turn, the defender would provide an update on his wellbeing over the weekend, hinting that he should be fine to partake in pre-season:

“Every day’s a new step, every day’s getting better, getting fitter and I think going into pre-season we’ll be good.

“Obviously I’ve had a few weeks of rest and then I’ll be hitting the season and trying to push on from there.”

Alexander-Arnold also discussed his disappointment at missing out on Euro 2020:

“It’s disappointing for me not to be there.

“At the end of the day, it still puts a smile on my face seeing the lads go far, the nation getting behind them – the supporters everywhere have been amazing. To know all the lads and a do few weeks with them, they’re going to do us proud.”
