‘Almost sure he’ll ask to leave’ – Inter Milan chief hints at January exit for Arsenal-linked Christian Eriksen

‘Almost sure he’ll ask to leave’ – Inter Milan chief hints at January exit for Arsenal-linked Christian Eriksen

Beppe Marotta, CEO of Italian powerhouse Inter Milan, has confirmed that, should his game-time not increase significantly by January, Christian Eriksen is likely to seek out a departure from the club.

Inter struggles

Danish international Eriksen of course brought his 7-year Spurs spell to an end back in January.

After coming to the decision not to renew his expiring contract with the north Londoners, the 28-year-old made the move to Serie A giants Inter Milan, in a cut-price deal.

At the time, Eriksen’s addition was understandably viewed as quite a coup for Inter, with the Dane having long stood as one of the Premier League’s most productive midfielders.

To say that his time at the San Siro has since not gone according to plan, though, would be putting it lightly.

Eriksen has majorly struggled to win over the ever-bullish Antonio Conte.

As things stand, the likes of Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic and summer arrival Arturo Vidal all sit ahead of the former Ajax man in the pecking order of the Nerazzurri boss.

When handed the opportunity to impress, meanwhile, Eriksen has not exactly done so, either, with the 28-year-old, across 9 appearances to this point in the campaign, having failed to directly contribute to a single goal.

‘Almost sure’

As such, as Eriksen’s time in Milan inches towards its one-year anniversary, murmurs have inevitably begun to spread in the media that Inter could attempt to cut their losses during the January window.

A host of clubs have been tipped as potential landing spots, with a shock return to Tottenham having even been pedalled by some English outlets.

Elsewhere, north London rivals Arsenal have also been linked, with the Gunners of course crying out for a creative presence in the middle of the park.

And, as outlined above, this weekend, any and all clubs considering a winter swoop for Eriksen have been handed a boost.

Speaking in a pre-match interview ahead of Inter’s win over Sassuolo this afternoon, Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta was drawn on the future of the club’s struggling midfield string-puller.

And Marotta went on to confirm that, if Antonio Conte has not changed his tune regarding Eriksen’s place in his setup by the time the January window rolls around, the expectation is that the Dane will push for an exit:
