Match preview

A Watford outfit brimming with confidence on the back of a dominant victory last time out will be eyeing a 3rd win from four, when they make the trip to the DW Stadium for a Championship clash on Saturday, October 29th.

The outfit hopeful of preventing as much? A Wigan Athletic side in free-fall.

Watford, of course, have endured an altogether hit-and-miss campaign to date.

Expected to mount a serious challenge for promotion ahead of proceedings kicking into gear once more in England’s 2nd tier, the Hornets have instead stumbled to a record of six wins, five draws, and five defeats.

And yet, should results go in their favour this weekend, Slaven Bilic’s men could find themselves back amongst the promotion playoff places.

This comes with Watford having pieced together six points from an available nine over the course of the last couple of weeks.

Either side of a heavy defeat at Millwall, the Hornets first got the better of Norwich City and, most recently, Luton Town.

Goals on the part of all of Keinan Davis, William Troost-Ekong, Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr made the difference in an altogether one-sided affair at Vicarage Road, with all associated with Saturday’s visitors, in turn, no doubt confident in the chances of their side making it two wins on the spin at the DW Stadium.

And Watford’s hopes will only be boosted ever further by the recent endeavours of their upcoming hosts.

Wigan, at present, stand as one of the Championship’s most off colour clubs.

All told, the Latics have slipped to defeat in five of their last six fixtures, most alarmingly at the hands of both Middlesbrough and Cardiff City, by a combined scoreline of seven goals to two.

To their credit, Leam Richardson’s men did showcase at least some signs of life last time out, albeit en route to an eventual 2-1 defeat at high-flying Queens Park Rangers.

Another ultimately fruitless outing, though, means that Wigan now sit just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Saturday’s hosts will therefore head into the latest round of action in the knowledge that a defeat could, when all is said and done, see them dragged into the bottom three.

And as much may well be on the cards, if 101′s prediction of an eventual Watford victory at the DW comes to fruition.
