Match preview

Two of the most out of form sides in the Championship are set to face off in a crunch relegation showdown at the DW Stadium on Saturday, November 12th.

The clash in question will see lackpool make the trip to a Wigan Athletic outfit trailing them by just two points in England’s 2nd tier.

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, the headline talking point at Wigan across the last 48 hours, of course, has come in the form of what many would no doubt argue marked an inevitable change on the club’s bench.

Owing to a dismal run of six defeats from seven, the board at the DW, on Thursday, came to the decision to cut ties with boss Leam Richardson.

This comes just weeks on from the tactician, who guided the Latics to the League One title last season, being awarded a new contract.

Assistant manager Rob Kelly, in turn, will step up to a caretaker role this weekend.

And Kelly will be hopeful of the ‘new manager bounce’ coming into swift effect, with Wigan, as things stand, sitting 2nd from bottom in the Championship table.

On the flip side, keen to take advantage of the ongoing turmoil in England’s northwest will be a Blackpool outfit also in the thick of the battle against the drop.

The Seasiders have looked all out of sorts of late, actually managing to pick up a point fewer than their upcoming hosts over the course of the last three gameweeks.

Worryingly, this trio of outings have too seen Michael Appleton’s men fail to find the net even once, despite the presence of Championship joint-top scorer Jerry Yates in their ranks.

Last time out, a home meeting with fellow strugglers Middlesbrough set alarm bells ringing across Bloomfield Road, owing to a head-turning 3-0 defeat.

Blackpool, in turn, have slipped to the depths of 21st in the table, just two points clear of both Wigan, and the bottom three.

We at 101 therefore view a sharing of the spoils as the most likely outcome upon the full-time whistle bringing proceedings to a close at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Do not be at all surprised, though, if hosts Wigan find a way to turn Blackpool over, to leapfrog the Tangerines in the Championship standings.
