Swansea vs Preston: Match preview

Swansea welcome Preston North End to the Liberty Stadium on Monday.

Swansea suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Birmingham City on Friday, their third straight defeat without scoring a goal. Swansea have only one won of their last five matches, but despite their poor form, they remain 4th in the table, level on 69 points with 3rd-place Brentford.

While an automatic promotion spot now seems out of reach, Swansea are all but guaranteed of making the playoffs.

Swansea have the fourth-best home record in the division, picking up 11 wins and 38 points from 19 matches played at the Liberty this season. Despite their solid record at home, goals have been hard to come by for the Swans, who have netted just 23 goals at the Liberty. Swansea’s last home match ended in a 1-0 defeat to Welsh rivals Cardiff.

Preston put an end to their three-match losing streak on Friday by earning a surprise draw at home to league leaders Norwich. Brad Potts scored a late equaliser for the home side.

Friday’s point leaves Preston 17th on 45 points. While they’re currently 10 points above the bottom three, 22nd-place Rotherham have four matches in hand over Preston, so they’re not completely out of danger.

Preston’s away record ranks 10th this season, with eight wins and a draw from 19 matches on the road. Preston have lost four matches on the spin away from home, the most recent of which was a 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Swansea beat Preston 1-0 in the reverse fixture at Deepdale in September. Wolves’ loanee Morgan Gibbs-White scored the only goal of the match. Preston have failed to win any of their last five matches against Swansea.

Swansea team news vs Preston

Steve Cooper could make a number of changes to the starting eleven following Swansea’s third consecutive defeat on Friday.

Villa loanee Conor Hourihane should be one of those recalled to the starting line-up, while Ryan Manning could replace Jake Bidwell who has struggled to find form in recent weeks.

Steven-Andreas Benda, Paul Arriola, Jordan Morris, and Liam Cullen are injured for the hosts.

Preston team news vs Swansea

Frankie McAvoy could stick with the 4-4-2 formation that earned a point against Norwich.

Club captain Alan Browne will serve the final game of his three-match suspension.  Anthony Gordon and Ben Whiteman will be pushing for recalls in midfield.

Patrick Bauer and Declan Rudd remain sidelined through injury.

Scott Sinclair is set to face his former club. The 32-year-old winger made 91 appearances for Swansea, scoring 36 goals.
