Match preview

The latest round of fixtures in the Championship is set to come to a close at the Bet365 Stadium, on Sunday, October 2nd.

Stoke City, sitting 14th in the table in England’s 2nd tier, will act as hosts for the clash.

The Potters are in the midst of an altogether underwhelming opening to the campaign, which has seen their hopes of securing a return to the Premier League dealt a series of early blows.

The dismissal of Michael O’Neill late in August has given way to a minor upturn in results, with Stoke, to their credit, having now fallen to defeat in just one of their last five outings.

Nevertheless, Alex Neil’s men remain just two points clear of the relegation zone, with just three wins to their name from a full 10 fixtures.

Their upcoming opponents, though, have not exactly lived up to expectations to this point in the season, either.

Watford are another pre-season promotion hopeful to have stuttered through the early months of 2022/23, with a failure to convert one point into three a real concern.

The Hornets, as a result, sit in 11th, with the same number of victories to their name as Stoke.

All associated with the Hertfordshire-based club, though, will be hopeful of the ‘new manager bounce’ kicking into full effect this weekend.

Their woes over the early weeks of the term culminated in a change on the bench at Vicarage Road earlier this week, when Rob Edwards was sent packing, to make way for ex-West Ham and West Brom boss Slaven Bilic.

As a result, we at 101 are backing Sunday’s visitors to eventually emerge from proceedings triumphant, owing to a hard-fought, one-goal victory.
