Odds Manager’s Sheffield Wednesday vs Nottingham Forest betting tips

Sheffield Wednesday are fighting for their lives at the foot of the Championship table, four points from safety with just two matches left to play. Nottingham Forest’s season is coming to a less dramatic close as they wind up a disappointing campaign.

It’s easy to forget that Wednesday started the season on the back foot. The Owls were handed a six-point deduction at the beginning of the season which has led them into the danger of dropping into League One.

It could well be a case of the Owls and the Pussy Cats on Saturday. Nottingham Forest are already “on the beach” safe in 17th, and one could argue that they wouldn’t mind handing three points to the hosts as they look to chase down Forest’s rivals Derby County for survival…

Read on to see how we think Saturday’s match will unfold, as well as our best betting picks including an 8/1 correct score selection.

If it wasn’t for Sheffield Wednesday’s point deduction they would be safe-ish in 21st spot. Sure, it’s not a massive leap, but it could prove pivotal in this season’s race for survival.

Three points on Saturday are simply a must for Darren Moore’s side, but their patchy form doesn’t guarantee such a result. Moore is still recovering from pneumonia with Jamie Smith expected to continue on the touchline.

The Owls have won just three of their last 16 and just two of their last eight at Hillsborough, with pressure mounting down the final stretch.

Goalscoring has been their biggest issue this campaign averaging just 0.8 goals per match, and with their defence leaking 1.3 per match it’s easy to see why they have been dragged into this dog fight.

Nottingham Forest have had a disappointing campaign but have managed to keep their noses clean down the foot of the table.

They are winless in their last four and have become one of the draw specialists in the Championship notching up 15 ties, also struggling in front of goal.

Chris Hughton will already be building toward next season and won’t be overly concerned with his side’s showing on Saturday afternoon.

A 2-1 home victory for the Owls looks a solid bet here as Wednesday’s desperation prevails.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Nottingham Forest: What are the betting odds?

o Home win – 6/5 at Unibet

Eight of Wednesday’s 12 wins this season have come on home soil, but the Owls have struggled in recent Hillsborough outings.

They’ve taken eight points from the last 24 available to them inside their historic stadium but will understand the importance of their last home match this season.

o Away win – 13/5 at bet365

Forest have sealed six wins away from the City Ground this season but have struggled to find their shooting boots on the road.

They’ve scored just 16 in 22 matches, but have gone unbeaten in their last four away days.

o Draw – 23/10 at 888sport

These two teams have endured 24 draws this season, with Forest bagging the majority of 15.

Seven of them have come on the road for the Reds, including three in their last four away trips.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Nottingham Forest: Odds Manager’s Extra Odds Picks

o Josh Windass to score first

Neither side has been full of goals this campaign, but Josh Windass has led the Wednesday line as good as anyone.

The 27-year-old has got nine in the Championship including four in his last nine.

o Both teams to score

Both sides have scored in six of the last 10 combined matches of these two. Sure, it’s not overwhelming, but the nip and tuck nature of this high-pressure fixture for the hosts should lead to chances at either end.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Nottingham Forest: Match preview

It’s now or never for Sheffield Wednesday in their hunt for survival. They know they need to better Derby’s result this weekend to stand a chance of leapfrogging them on the last day of the season.

The Owls haven’t played in the third tier of English football since the 2011-12 season, but have struggled in the bottom half of the table over the past three campaigns.

Their recent form could certainly be worse.

They’ve taken a vital four points from their last three matches and have only lost one of their last five at home, but will have to discover their scoring boots if they are to brush aside a stubborn Forest outfit.

Forest have enjoyed their time on the road of late taking six points from twelve, going unbeaten in four – despite a lack of incentive to fight for, Hughton won’t want his side to simply roll over in Sheffield.

We favour Sheffield Wednesday to get the three points they need going into a potentially crunch meeting with Derby County.

Sheffield Wednesday team news vs Nottingham Forest

Sheffield Wednesday could well have a few injury boosts ahead of the weekend with Chey Dunkley, Massimo Luongo, and Joost van Aken close to fitness ahead of Forest’s visit.

Defender Tom Lees is an injury doubt after being taken off just before half time at the weekend.

The hosts will be relying on a combination of Josh Windass, Callum Paterson, and Jordan Rhodes to add to their combined 23 goals this season.

Nottingham Forest team news vs Sheffield Wednesday

Lewis Grabban is Nottingham Forest’s top goalscorer in the league this season with a miserly six strikes and will be asked to build on that tally as he once again leads the line for the Reds.

Joe Lolley, Sammy Ameobi, and Tobias Figueiredo have all missed recent fixtures though injury and have proved a big loss for Chris Hughton’s side.
