QPR vs Wycombe: Match preview
Queens Park Rangers welcome Championship strugglers Wycombe to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Tuesday evening.
QPR picked up their first win in four matches on Saturday, beating Bristol City 2-0 away from home. Ilias Chair and Robert Dickie scored Rangers’ goals in the first half. Saturday’s win leaves QPR 16th in the table on 43 points. With two games in hand over most of the sides above them, a top-half finish is still very much on the cards for Mark Warburton’s side.
QPR’s home form has been poor this season. Their points tally of 22 at home ranks 18th in the Championship. They’re one of only six teams to have a negative goal difference from matches played at home.
Rangers managed to win all three of their home matches at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium in the month of February. However, they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Barnsley in their most recent home game.
Unsurprisingly, Wycombe have the worst away record in the division, winning just two of their 17 matches on the road. Wycombe have also conceded a league-high 36 away goals.
Gareth Ainsworth’s side picked up four points from three away games in February, but regular business has resumed in March with back-to-back 2-0 away defeats.
A win for Wycombe would move them to within two points of Sheffield Wednesday in 23rd.
Wycombe held QPR to a 1-1 draw at Adams Park in the reverse fixture in December 2020. An own goal from Jason McCarthy gave QPR the lead before Anis Mehmeti scored a late equaliser. Wycombe’s last win over QPR came back in August 2002.
QPR team news vs Wycombe
Mark Warburton is not expected to make wholesale changes to the starting eleven, although Dominic Ball could return to midfield in place of Sam Field.
Geoff Cameron missed out against Bristol City and remains a doubt for Tuesday, so Jordy de Wijs should keep his spot in defence.
Luke Amos and Tom Carroll are both unavailable for QPR.
Rangers midfielder Charlie Owens made two league appearances for Wycombe during a brief loan spell in 2019.
Wycombe team news vs QPR
Dominic Gape and winger Fred Onyedinma are both in line for recalls.
Jordan Obita is Wycombe’s only injury concern for Tuesday. The full-back is likely to miss the next couple of weeks due to a muscle injury.
David Wheeler is in contention to face his former club. Wheeler made nine appearances for QPR before being sold in 2019.
