Preston vs Brentford: Odds Manager Betting tips

True to their polite west London nature, Brentford have become the draw specialists of late in the Championship.

Thomas Frank’s side have shared the spoils in their last four fixtures, denting their chances of an automatic promotion spot.

Despite this, the Bees are still proving hard to sting – they’ve lost just seven league matches all season and will arrive at Deepdale with hope of adding to Preston’s recent misery.

The Lilywhites have won just two in 11 Championship matches and are hovering in the ‘no man’s land ’of the division.

Read on to see how we think Saturday’s clash will play out, plus those all-important betting picks including a tasty 13/2 correct score punt.

Preston are relying on the ‘new manager bounce’ of Frankie McAvoy’s interim appointment after suffering at the start of 2021.

Former boss Alex Neil oversaw just three wins for the Lilywhites since the turn of the year, with Preston’s season petering out after starting the campaign with real promotion ambitions.

Their home form is a real concern – they’ve conceded first in 60% of their home league matches, with only five teams showing a worse defensive record than them in the Championship.

Brentford have hit a brick wall after pushing for the top two spots. They’ve taken just four points from the last 12 on offer, and have won just two of their last seven away matches.

Both sides have every right to play with a degree of caution this weekend, but Brentford still have an abundance of quality that will be expected to shine through.

Preston have kept one clean sheet in their last seven and we are expecting the Bees to add that statistic on Saturday.

A 1-0 away win at 13/2 is a terrific price, as Frank galvanises his squad for a late push for promotion.

Preston North End vs Brentford FC: What are the betting odds?

o Home win – 3/1 at bet365

Preston have the joint third-worst home record in the league this season taking just 20 points from 60 on offer.

That amounts to just five wins at Deepdale – winning 25% of encounters on home soil.

3/1 feels right, especially considering the quality of the visitors.

o Away win – Evs at 888sport

Brentford have the second-best away record in the Championship, taking 33 points on the road – only bettered by Norwich.

They have also scored the most away goals with 31 and are more than capable of grinding out another away win this Saturday.

o Draw – 23/10 at Betfair

There’s only been one draw between these sides in the last 14 meetings, with Brentford usually coming out on top.

We have to consider the Bees recent run of draws, meaning that there is certain value to be held at 23/10. But lightning doesn’t strike five times in a row… does it?

Preston vs Brentford: Odds Manager’s Extra Odds Picks

o Ivan Toney to score first – 11/4 at bet365

When you’re looking for a first goalscorer in a Brentford match, look no further than the machine that is Ivan Toney.

Toney has filled the boots of Ollie Watkins with ease this season notching up an incredible 28 goals, and is well on his way to the Championship’s golden boot.

o Brentford to score first – 4/6 at Betfair

As we touched on earlier, Preston have conceded the first goal in 60% of their home matches this season.

Brentford are impressive away from home and it’s easy to envisage the visitors chalking up the first goal on Saturday.

Preston vs Brentford: Match preview

If Brentford are to avoid another season in the lottery of the playoffs, then they will need to kick on considerably over the next couple of weeks.

The Bees now sit nine points off Watford in second, but have the comfort of a game in hand which they simply must win.

Reading, Barnsley and Swansea are also breathing down the neck of Thomas Frank’s side, with a majority of their remaining seven fixtures being filed under the category of ‘must win’.

Preston, on the other hand, have very little to play for at the back end of the season.

Their new interim manager Frankie McAvoy will be using their remaining six fixtures as a job interview for the permanent role, meaning that the Lilywhites could become an unexpected threat to sides expecting to pick up an easy three points.

Preston shocked Brentford 4-2 in the reverse fixture back in October, so revenge will be very much on the minds of the west London side this Saturday.

Preston team news vs Brentford

Frankie McAvoy has this week confirmed that he expects to be without Joe Rafferty for a few more weeks because of injury.

The defender has yet to feature for McAvoy due to suffering a back injury before the international break.

There will also be late fitness tests for Daniel Johnson, Sean Maguire and Anthony Gordon following their omissions from the squad on Easter Monday.

Brentford team news vs Preston

Ever-present Danish defender Henrik Dalsgaard has missed the last two Brentford matches following a knee injury.

The 31-year-old has been assessed this week and could well return to the starting eleven at Deepdale this weekend.

Josh Dasilva is a notable absentee in Brentford’s midfield having missed out on their last six fixtures.
