Match preview

Two sides separated by just a solitary point are set to go head to head in a Championship clash at Deepdale on Saturday, January 14th.

The clash in question will see Preston North End play host to a long-faltering Norwich City side.

Starting with the former, Preston, after slipping into an alarming spell of form, culminating in a trio of successive defeats, have managed to steady the ship over the course of the last couple of weeks.

First, in their most recent league outing, the Lilywhites had star hitman Ched Evans to thank for a hard-fought win at Stoke City.

Just as proceedings appeared set to peter out into stalemate, Evans came up with the goods a full three minutes into injury time, to make it six goals in his last seven appearances, and guide Preston back into the top half of the table.

And this result, in turn, was followed by success in the FA Cup last weekend, too.

On this occasion, Huddersfield proved the Lilywhites’ victims, en route to a spot in the 4th round of England’s most prestigious cup competition.

Safe to say, then, that Ryan Lowe’s troops will have their sights set firmly on a third win on the bounce on Saturday afternoon.

This comes with their upcoming opponents having endured an altogether less productive time of things of late.

Norwich City, of course, have stood as one of the disappointments of the Championship season to date.

Recent weeks, though, have proven of particular concern for all associated with the Canaries.

All told, dating back to early mid-November, they have notched just a solitary win from seven, with the dismissal of Dean Smith and ensuing appointment of David Wagner having done little to turn around the fortunes of the struggling East Anglian outfit.

After being downed by Watford at Carrow Road in their most recent league outing, a 2nd home defeat on the spin was forthcoming last weekend, when a solitary Jack Vale strike proved enough to send Norwich packing from the FA Cup.

This, all told, made it four defeats in five across all competitions, leaving Wagner and co. in a lowly 11th in the Championship table.

We at 101 are therefore backing Preston to compound Norwich’s woes ever further, come the full-time whistle at Deepdale this weekend.
