Match preview

Two sides in the midst of fine respective stretches of recent form are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at Deepdale this Saturday, March 11th.

The matchup in question will see Preston North End act as hosts, in a meeting with Cardiff City.

Beginning with the former, Preston have gone about proving themselves one of the tougher nuts to crack in England’s 2nd tier over the course of recent weeks.

After slipping off the pace in alarming fashion to the tune of four defeats from five across all competitions from mid-January into February, the Lilywhites have since bounced back in impressive fashion.

Though they have not exactly set the world alight, Ryan Lowe’s troops have very much steadied the ship.

Last time out, a commendable point at Watford made it five without defeat, a stretch which also includes a win over Wigan Athletic, and further credible draws with all of Luton Town, Coventry City and Hull City.

Preston, in turn, have climbed back to the comforts of mid-table.

Stretching their unbeaten streak to six games on Saturday, though, will likely prove no easy task for Lowe and co.

This comes with upcoming opponents Cardiff in the midst of a remarkable recent resurgence of their own.

The Bluebirds, of course, have spent the majority of the campaign to date scrapping it out amongst the battle against the drop.

And, for some time, the Welsh giants looked one of the frontrunners to ultimately be sent packing to English football’s third tier come the season’s close.

Recent weeks, however, under the watch of Sabri Lamouchi, have seen Cardiff finally begin to string together the kind of positive stretch which could ultimately prove the difference in their survival.

All told, wins have been forthcoming in three of the club’s last four, dating back to the middle of February.

Not only that, but each of these triumphs also came by way of shutouts at the back, most recently to the tune of a 2-0 downing of Bristol City last weekend.

And though they remain in 21st in the table, Cardiff, in turn, have put a six-point buffer between themselves and the bottom three.

We at 101 are therefore backing the Bluebirds to keep their solid recent run of results alive and well, courtesy of an eventual share of the spoils at Deepdale on Saturday evening.
