Match preview

The headline fixture of the upcoming Championship weekend is set to play out at Carrow Road on Saturday, February 4th.

The matchup in question will see a Norwich City outfit looking back to their brilliant best act as hosts, in a meeting with table-topping Burnley.

Starting with the former, Norwich, of course, have endured nothing short of a nightmare campaign to date.

Viewed as being amongst the favourites for promotion back to the top-flight ahead of the term kicking into gear, the Canaries, until recently, found themselves in the unheard of depths of mid-table.

And yet, as alluded to above, over the course of the last couple of weeks, David Wagner’s troops have put the rest of the Championship’s playoff hopefuls on notice.

First, doubles on the part of both Teemu Pukki and Kieran Dowell guided Norwich to a four-goal drubbing of Preston North End.

Then, last time out, their explosive attacking potential was on show once more, en route to another four goals scored away to Coventry City.

The Canaries will therefore head into Saturday’s action in the knowledge that, owing to the remarkably tight-knit nature of the table at present, a third victory on the spin will guide them at least temporarily into a share of 3rd place.

Safe to say, however, that such a result will prove a far from straightforward one to come by.

This comes with the Canaries upcoming opponents having tasted defeat on just a pair of occasions across the entirety of the season to date.

Burnley of course currently represent the standard in England’s 2nd tier, sitting pretty at the division’s summit owing to a record of 18 wins from 28.

Eight such victories have come on the spin dating back to mid-November, the most recent of which saw Vincent Kompany’s men showcase their never-say-die spirit once more.

After slipping into an early deficit at the hands of in-form West Bromwich Albion, late strikes on the part of Nathan Tella and Scott Twine proved enough to turn the clash on its head, on the way to a 2-1 final scoreline.

Burnley, as a result, remain a full five points clear atop the Championship table.

Though they were held to a goalless draw by League One Ipswich Town last weekend, we at 101 therefore view the Clarets as slight favourites heading into Saturday’s Carrow Road showdown.

Do not be surprised, though, if a Norwich outfit brimming with confidence ultimately do enough to emerge from the action with a hard-earned share of the spoils.
