Millwall vs Swansea: Match preview

Millwall welcome Swansea City to The Den on Saturday.

Millwall made it three wins on the spin on Monday with a 2-1 away win at Stoke. Murray Wallace opened the scoring for Millwall while Mason Bennett scored their second-half winner. Monday’s win has lifted the Lions up to 9th in the table on 58 points.

Although not impossible, it’s unlikely that Millwall will make up the eight points that currently separates them from the playoff positions, but a top-half finish would still represent a decent campaign.

Millwall’s home form ranks 13th in the Championship this season, having picked up 28 points from 20 matches. The Lions have netted 19 goals and conceded 16 at the Den. Only four teams have won fewer matches at home than Millwall (6).

To their credit, Gary Rowett’s side have dramatically improved their home form in recent weeks. Millwall have won back-to-back matches at home, the most recent of which was a 1-0 win over Rotherham. The Lions have only lost one of their last nine at home, winning five of the last seven.

Swansea suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Preston on Monday, making it four consecutive losses for Steve Cooper’s side.

A few games ago, Swansea were in contention for an automatic promotion spot, now their playoff status isn’t even guaranteed. That said, Swansea remain 4th in the table on 69 points, four points above Bournemouth n 7th.

Swansea have the 5th best away record in the Championship, picking up nine wins and 31 points from 19 matches at the Liberty Stadium. Swansea’s most recent away game ended in a 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City.

Swansea beat Millwall 2-1 in the reverse fixture at the Liberty Stadium in October. Jake Bidwell and Ben Cabango netted for the Swans, while Tom Bradshaw was on target for the visitors. Millwall have only won one of their last seven meetings against Swansea.

Millwall team news vs Swansea

Millwall boss Gary Rowett isn’t likely to make too many changes to the side that won at Stoke.

Jed Wallace could be deployed in a more attacking role, with Maikel Kieftenbeld returning to the starting eleven.

Shaun Hutchinson and Ryan Leonard are out for the Lions.

Swansea team news vs Millwall

Swansea could revert back to a 3-4-1-2 formation, which would see Kyle Naughton return to the starting eleven, partnering Ben Cabango and Marc Guehi in defence.

Steven-Andreas Benda, Paul Arriola, Jordan Morris and Liam Cullen are confirmed absentees for Steve Cooper’s side.
