Leeds United vs Sheffield Wednesday match preview

A Leeds United outfit with sights set firmly up the Championship table are set to act as hosts, in a meeting with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, September 2nd.

This comes with the Whites, for their part, fresh off an altogether hit-and-miss opening to the new campaign.

Amid hopes of a swift promotion back to the Premier League, Daniel Farke’s troops, thus far, have racked up just five points from an available 12.

An opening day stalemate at home to Cardiff City was followed by defeat to Birmingham City, before a single-point haul was again forthcoming, on this occasion at home to West Bromwich Albion.

Safe to say, then, that a first victory of the campaign marked an altogether timely one for Leeds, last weekend.

After making the daunting trip to table-topping Ipswich Town, goals on the part of all of Georginio Rutter, Wilfried Gnonto, debutant Joel Piroe, and Luis Sinisterra proved enough to guide Farke and co. to the right side of a seven-goal thriller.

With youngster Crysencio Summerville back from injury, too, Saturday’s hosts will therefore no doubt fancy their chances of making it two league wins on the spin later today.

Standing in their way, meanwhile, will be a Sheffield Wednesday outfit to have endured nothing short of a nightmare return to England’s 2nd tier.

After clinching promotion by way of the League One playoffs last time out, Wednesday have since failed to put a single point on the board in the Championship.

The only side without even a draw to show for their efforts, Xisco’s men therefore find themselves glued to the foot of the table.

Most recently, after being put to the sword by all of Southampton, Hull City and Preston North End, the Owls made the trip to fellow strugglers Cardiff City.

Just when it looked as though they had done enough to clinch a share of the spoils, however, disaster struck, hosts Cardiff afforded a spot-kick which was dully dispatched by Ryan Wintle a full eight minutes into injury time.

And we at 101 do not envision things getting all that much better for Wednesday later today, backing hosts Leeds United to ultimately emerge triumphant come the full-time whistle at Elland Road.
