Coventry vs Rotherham betting tips: Championship preview, predictions and odds

Recommended Bets

Coventry are strong favourites for this one at 8/11 and Viktor Gyokeres scored a fine goal last time out against Sunderland. We are backing him to double his tally for the season and help the home side get the victory here.

We strongly fancy the home side here, with Rotherham’s squad being largely the same as the one that struggled a couple of seasons ago. Coventry are well established in the second division and will be aiming to win convincingly, especially being at home.

Match Preview

Mark Robins’ side made a solid start to the season, coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last weekend. The Sky Blues conceded early and had to withstand a storm from the home side in the early stages of the match, but they showed their metal in the second half and a point was the least they deserved from the game.

Coventry will be looking to build on a solid season last year after considerably strengthening their defence with the loan additions of centre-backs Callum Doyle from Manchester City and Jonathan Panzo from Nottingham Forest. While promotion may seem like a long shot, they don’t have the worst odds for going up this season with bookies pricing them at 7/1 and even shorter odds of 5/2 to gain a top six finish.

This weekend’s visitors Rotherham will count themselves unlucky not to take all three points against Swansea City on the opening day. They took the lead early on but ultimately had to settle for the draw as an unfortunate slip led to the Swans’ equaliser. United will be hoping to end their recent yo-yo club reputation after bouncing between League One and the Championship for several seasons.

However, fans may be concerned at the fact form dropped off dramatically towards the back end of last year and they have not spent a great deal in the transfer window so far, with the majority of their signings coming in on free transfers or loan deals. Rotherham are joint-favourites with last season’s strugglers Reading to go down, with both sides priced at 6/4 to get relegated to League One this year.
