Match preview

Swansea City will be hopeful of keeping the club’s charge towards the Championship’s automatic playoff spots alive, when they make the trip to Ashton Gate on Saturday, October 29th.

A Bristol City outfit in the midst of a frustratingly hit-and-miss spell of form, though, will set out with every intention of putting a halt to as much.

Swansea, of course, have stood as one of the English 2nd tier’s standout sides of late.

All told, save for a blowout 4-goal drubbing at the hands of table-topping Burnley, Russell Martin’s troops have looked absolutely relentless, on their way to six wins from seven since the middle of last month.

The latest of these victories came last weekend, at the expense of Cardiff City.

Goals on the part of Oli Cooper and Michael Obafemi proved enough to put the Swans’ Welsh rivals to the sword by two goals to nil at the Liberty Stadium.

Should results go in their favour over the course of the coming weekend, Swansea, in turn, could find themselves as high as joint-2nd in the Championship table, whilst boasting a game in hand over leaders Burnley.

Upcoming hosts Bristol City, then, will evidently have their work cut out for them in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.

The Robins, as alluded to above, have proven one of the English 2nd tier’s more inconsistent outfits of late.

Since stuttering to a 0-0 stalemate with Coventry City at the beginning of the month, Nigel Pearson’s men have alternated between wins and losses for five straight gameweeks.

Last time out, a trip to the Madjeski to face Reading culminated in a deserved 2-0 defeat, during which Bristol failed to direct a single shot on target.

The Robins, despite racking up a head-turning total of 25 goals - good enough for 3rd best in the Championship - have therefore been dragged back down to 13th in the table, just four points clear of the relegation zone.

And we at 101 do not envision such woes being arrested this weekend, either, with Swansea looking clear favourites to ultimately emerge from Ashton Gate with all three points.
