Bournemouth vs Cardiff: Match preview
Bournemouth welcome an in-form Cardiff City to the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night.
Bournemouth’s four-match unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 at Queen Park Rangers. Shane Long scored an equalising goal for Bournemouth but the visitors couldn’t hang on for the point.
Saturday’s result leaves Bournemouth 6th in the table on 49 points, three points above Cardiff in 7th. Bournemouth could move up to 5th with a win, depending on Reading’s result at Wycombe.
The Cherries have the fourth-best home record in the Championship, picking up 30 points from their 15 matches at the Vitality Stadium. They have scored 26 and conceded 15 goals at home this season.
Bournemouth have won their last two home matches, the most recent of which was a 1-0 win over Rotherham.
Cardiff were 4-0 winners at home to Preston North End on Saturday. Kieffer Moore, Josh Murphy, Marlon Pack, and Thomas Harris all scored for the Bluebirds. The result leaves Cardiff seventh in the table, three points off of the last playoff spot.
Cardiff have the third-best away record in the Championship, winning seven and drawing four of their 15 matches away from home. They have only conceded 14 goals away from home.
Mick McCarthy’s side have won three away games on the spin, the most recent of which was a 2-0 win at Luton.
Cardiff and Bournemouth drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium in October 2020. Dominic Solanke gave Bournemouth a half-time lead before Harry Wilson equalised against his former club in the second half.
Bournemouth team news vs Cardiff
Bournemouth recently announced that interim head coach Jonathan Woodgate will take charge of the club for the remainder of the campaign.
Woodgate could hand recalls to David Brooks and Sam Surridge, with Jack Wilshere and Shane Long potentially making way – although Long did score at the weekend.
Arnaut Danjuma missed the game at QPR and remains an injury doubt for Wednesday. Dominic Solanke, Jack Stacey, and Steve Cook are all still sidelined.
Cardiff team news vs Bournemouth
Mick McCarthy is set to name an unchanged starting eleven on Wednesday night. Jonny Williams is fit again and could be handed minutes off the bench.
Jordi Osei-Tutu, Lee Tomlin, Isaac Vassell, and Sol Bamba are unavailable.
Cardiff have a number of former Bournemouth players in their ranks. Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson spent the campaign on loan at Bournemouth last season, netting seven Premier League goals for the Cherries.
Lee Tomlin and Joe Bennett were both on loan at Bournemouth during the 2015-16 season.
