Betting prediction: Porto 1-2 Juventus
Two sides with similar domestic stories come to grips with one another in Portugal, with both Juventus and Porto having the unfortunate luck of trying to catch two red-hot domestic rivals. Both have strong European pedigree, with attacking cores that are both quite capable on their day. Juventus have the ace in the hole that is Cristiano Ronaldo however, and his track record of performing in the competition should help a good Juventus pip a strong opponent.
Porto vs Juventus: Recommended bets
Two or more goals: Cristiano Ronaldo
At the moment, there are really only two main goal threats for Juventus; Cristiano Ronaldo, and Alvaro Morata. Though the Spanish international is the club leading goal-scorer in Champions League this term (six goals in six appearances) and joint-top scorer, Ronaldo is arguably the competition’s greatest player as well as the all-time leading scorer. His penchant for banging in the goals in Europe puts him in with a good chance at a brace should Juve be firing on all cylinders on Wednesday.
To score anytime: Sérgio Oliveira
It isn’t often that a central midfielder is your most potent goal threat on multiple competition fronts, but Porto’s Sérgio Oliveira is just that for Porto. The Portuguese international is the clubs’ joint-top scorer in Liga NOS, while also having the best goal return in Champions League this term. With the threat that the likes of Mehdi Taremi and Moussa Marega bring to the table, a sneaky Oliveira goal could be on.

Porto vs Juventus: Match preview
Many in the northwest of Portugal will be hopeful if not disappointed this term regarding giants Porto. Sitting ten points adrift from undefeated domestic rivals Sporting CP in Liga NOS, any other season on the homefront would likely see Dragões topping the table. Suffering defeat just twice in the league while averaging over two goals per match, Porto remains a competent and considerable opponent to negotiate in Europe.
In Champions League this term, Porto’s performances at home mirrored their exploits against continental opposition. Other than their 3-1 loss to Manchester City on matchday one, Porto’s backline did not surrender a single goal to their opposition and went on to post four wins and one draw for the remainder of play in Group C. But their current domestic form could signal a side that may struggle against a club like Juventus, whose options available to Andrea Pirlo remain incredibly potent.
Four draws in their last six Liga NOS outings could be a cause for concern, while goals were harder to come by against Farense (1-0 win) and Rio Ave (2-0 win) in the two wins they did post during the same period. Competition leading goal-scorer Sérgio Oliveira remains one of the bigger attacking threats that manager Sérgio Conceição, though center-forward pair Moussa Marega and Mehdi Taremi may be able to replicate some of their domestic form of Porto are on it Wednesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the unquestionable key for Juventus in Europe
It is not every day that Italian giants Juventus sit fourth in Serie A, eight points adrift of table-topping Inter Milan. The same can be said for a Juve-side that are well off the pace for goals scored in the league (6th), while also having to constantly look over their shoulder just below them at SSC Napoli, Atalanta Bergamo, and SS Lazio, all of whom are just two points off La Vecchia Signora.
With their direct domestic rivals all keeping pace – or outpacing – Andrea Pirlo’s men, a successful Champions League campaign could alleviate the pressure surrounding a domestic campaign that at current will certainly be viewed as not good enough. Recent losses against both Inter and Napoli in the league only serve as a further testament that many in Piedmont could end up disappointed on all fronts for the first time in ten seasons. Perhaps there is no better time for the Bianconeri to reach their first Champions League final since Real Madrid’s 4-1 demolition of them in Cardiff back in 2016-17. The goal-scoring hero on that day? None other than Cristiano Ronaldo, the same player who the Juventus faithful will hope has further heroic performances left in him.
Like any side that reaches this stage of the competition, Juventus have more than enough quality to make a serious run to the final, but Ronaldo is synonymous with Champions League nights. The competition’s all-time leading goal scorer and owner of five Champions League winners medals, the Portuguese icon is capable of putting his side on his shoulders arguably better than anyone, especially in this arena. If Juventus is to make a push on the continent, then Ronaldo is the unquestioned key to their chances of reaching the final.

Porto team news vs Juventus
Porto will be without the pair of Zaidu Sanusi and Otavio when they welcome Juventus to Portugal on Wednesday, with manager Sérgio Conceição forced to jiggle with his matchday XI to compensate. Sanusi and Otavio are the only absentees, however.
Juventus team news vs Porto
Both Juan Cuadrado and Arthur will be unavailable for selection through injury, robbing manager Andrea Pirlo of additional valuable options for Juventus’ trip to Porto.
Paulo Dybala and Aaron Ramsey are close to a return, but it is not certain if either will be available for selection in midweek.
It is unclear if Juve will be deployed in a three-at-the-back formation, or if Pirlo will set them up to be more attack-oriented and look to take control of the tie in the first leg. Both options have merit.
