Lyon vs Manchester City betting tips: Champions League match preview & predictions

Lyon vs Manchester City prediction: Lyon 1-3 Manchester City

Manchester City will be out for revenge after losing the reverse fixture in September.

City head into the match on the back of eight consecutive wins in all competitions. During that time they have scored 30 goals.

Lyon vs Manchester City: Who will win?

Manchester City are 4/11 to win on Tuesday night while the draw is priced at 17/4. Lyon are 6/1 to repeat their matchday 1 victory.

Lyon have failed to score only once in their last seven Champions League matches. Back teams to score at 4/7.

After a slow start to the season, Leroy Sane has now scored six goals in his last seven appearances for club and country.

Although he played 90 minutes on Saturday, the German is likely to feature once again in midweek.

Lyon vs Manchester City Champions League match preview

Manchester City travel to France on Tuesday night for their penultimate Champions League Group F match against Lyon.

The two sides met for the first time in their history in matchday one of the competition when Lyon pulled off a surprise victory at the Etihad.

Nabil Fekir was instrumental, scoring one and assisting the other in Lyon’s 2-1 win. Bernardo Silva pulled one back for City in the second half.

13 matches later and that remains City’s only defeat of the season across all competitions.

Pep Guardiola’s side maintained their two-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table with a brilliant 4-0 win at West Ham on Saturday.

David Silva scored for the fourth consecutive match before Raheem Sterling scored his fourth goal in four matches. Leroy Sane scored City’s other two goals.

Lyon are doing relatively well themselves, second only to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. Bruno Genesio’s side claimed bragging rights in the Derby du Rhone against Saint Etienne on Friday night, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches.

Former Manchester City defender Jason Denayer scored his first goal for the club.

Qualification in sight

A win for Lyon would earn them a spot in the last 16. They could also qualify with a draw, depending on the result between Hoffenheim and Shakhtar.

A draw would be enough for City to progress to the knockout stage, while a win would confirm them as winners of Group F.

Lyon team news vs Manchester City

Lyon will likely field a similar side to the one which beat City in September.

Leo Dubois is back in training following a thigh injury but is unlikely to feature.

Nabil Fekir is a booking away from a suspension on matchday six.

Amine Gouiri is a long-term injury absentee.

Manchester City team news vs Lyon

Guardiola has the luxury of rotating his side ahead of a busy December schedule.

Gabriel Jesus could replace Sergio Aguero up front.

Gabriel Jesus has not travelled so it will almost certainly be Sergio Aguero up top for this one.

Riyad Mahrez should start in place of Raheem Sterling out wide.

Phil Foden could be given another opportunity in midfield with Ilkay Gundogan not part of the Manchester City squad that went to Lyon.

While Oleksandr Zinchenko provides an alternate option to Fabian Delph at left-back.

Both John Stones and Vincent Kompany didn’t feature on Saturday and could return to the starting eleven in place of Nicolas Otamendi and Amyric Laporte.

Bernardo Silva is close to a return but will not be risked on Tuesday. The Portuguese playmaker has not travelled with City to France.

Kevin de Bruyne and Benjamin Mendy remain sidelined.

Argentine duo Aguero and Nicolas Otamendi would miss the final group match against Hoffenheim if they were to receive a booking on Tuesday.
