Liverpool vs PSG Champions League match preview

Last season’s Champions League finalists Liverpool host Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield as Group C gets underway on Tuesday night.

Joining the two sides in Group C are Serie A runners-up Napoli and Serbian outfit Crvena Zvezda.

Both Liverpool and PSG have begun their respective domestic campaigns with 100% records after five matches.

PSG continued their impressive start with a 4-0 home win over Saint-Etienne last Friday. Julian Draxler, Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria and Moussa Diaby scored the goals.

Liverpool, meanwhile, beat Spurs 2-1 at Wembley. The scoreline flattered the home side, who were utterly dominated by Jurgen Klopp’s men.

PSG will be debuting their new Jordan kits in Tuesday’s match. The iconic Michael Jordan Jumpman will replace the Nike swoosh on the PSG strip.

Tuesday’s game sees former Borussia Dortmund managers Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel go head to head. Tuchel replaced Klopp as manager of the Bundesliga club in 2015.

PSG and Liverpool were the two highest scoring sides in last season’s group stage, scoring a combined 48 goals between them in the group stage.

Liverpool alone scored 47 goals in 15 matches in last season’s competition.

Liverpool’s front three have not yet hit the heights of last season, with Mohamed Salah only on two goals.

PSG have scored an impressive 17 goals in their 5 Ligue 1 matches already.

Liverpool team news vs PSG

Jordan Henderson was a substitute in Saturday’s match and could start from the off.

Although Roberto Firmino’s eye injury sustained at Wembley is not serious, Klopp would not confirm whether or not the Brazilian would start on Tuesday.

With Dominic Solanke and Divock Origi doubtful, Daniel Sturridge provides the most realistic alternative in the unlikely event that Firmino is unable to play.

Joe Gomez is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk at the back, ahead of Joel Matip. Dejan Lovren is still injured.

Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain sidelined.

PSG team news vs Liverpool

Gianluigi Buffon will serve a suspension carried over from last season. Alphonse Areola will start in goal in place of the Italian.

Marco Verratti is also suspended, meaning Marquinhos could move into defensive midfield.

Thomas Meunier should start at right-back in Dani Alves’ absence. On the opposite flank, Juan Bernat is expected to start while Layvin Kurzawa misses out through injury.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe missed the win over Saint-Etienne due to fitness concerns and suspension respectively, but both will come back into the starting eleven.
