Juventus have work to do if they hope to advance to the last 8 of the Champions League as they trail FC Porto 2-1.
Early goals in either half from Medhi Taremi and Moussa Marega fired the hosts into a shock two-goal lead.
Federico Chiesa managed to score a potentially crucial away goal eight minutes from time to leave the tie finely poised.
However, Pirlo’s side will need to produce a much-improved performance on Tuesday having disappointed in Portugal three weeks ago.
Since the defeat in Porto, Juve have gone four matches unbeaten in a better run from the Turin-based club.
They are back up into third in Serie A following three wins in their last four and now trail leaders Inter Milan by seven points.
FC Porto take lead to Turin
FC Porto stunned Juventus by clinching a 2-1 victory in Portugal three weeks ago.
This was the Portuguese club’s first-ever win over Juve in the Champions League in five attempts.
They now head to Turin with a one-goal advantage, although their record in away matches in the competition is very poor.
Porto have failed to win in their last 13 away matches in the knockout stages of the Champions League with their last win coming back in 2003/04.
In the league, Porto look set to finish runners-up to Sporting who hold a ten-point lead over them.
They were also knockout of the Taça de Portugal as they were beaten by Braga.

Matthijs de Ligt is expected to be available on Tuesday having missed Juve’s last three matches.
The defender has been struggling with muscle fatigue but is in line to return on Tuesday.
Leonardo Bonucci will also be available after he returned from a muscle injury on the weekend.
With Giorgio Chiellini also missing over recent weeks, Pirlo has been forced to bring Alex Sandro into central defence.
Bonucci and de Ligt’s return ahead of Tuesday’s clash will be a huge boost for the Old Lady with one of the two expected to partner Merih Demiral.
Rodrigo Bentancur and Paulo Dybala will join Chiellini in missing Tuesday’s tie through injury.
