This’ll be RB Leipzig’s third DFB-Pokal Final, losing both to date. Only MSV Duisburg and Alemannia Aachen have appeared in three or more finals without ever winning one. Both meetings between these two this season finished 1-1, with Leipzig victorious in six of the 11 encounters before this. The team finishing higher in the league, in this case Leipzig, have won ten of the last 12 finals.

Both teams to score is 3/4.

RB Leipzig to win and both teams to score is 3/1.

Christopher Nkunku is 5/1 to break the deadlock and 8/5 to add to his ridiculous 34 goals so far this season.

Freiburg vs RB Leipzig betting tips: DFB-Pokal Final preview, predictions and odds

For the first time since 2011, it’s DFB-Pokal day and neither Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund are in town.

In fact, with all of Germany’s heavyweights having fallen in earlier rounds, this final is guaranteed to produce a first-time winner.

Since 1993, only Wolfsburg in 2015 have won their maiden Pokal, but that’ll change in Berlin on Saturday night.

Given their opponents ownership structure, the overwhelming majority of neutrals and supporters of other clubs are cheering on Freiburg in this one.

Breisgau-Brasilianer finished sixth in the Bundesliga this season, only finishing higher than that twice before, in 1995 and 2013.

Thus, Christian Streich’s side will compete in the Europa League group stages next season, looking to cap off a fine season with silverware.

In this competition, Freiburg have won five away games to get here, overcoming Würzburger Kickers, Osnabrück, Hoffenheim, Bochum and Hamburg.

Thus, Freiburg are through to their first-ever German Cup Final, with tens of thousands of supporters making the trip east to Berlin.

As for RB Leipzig, they’re hoping it’ll be third time lucky in this competition.

This is Die Roten Bullen’s third final in four seasons, losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich in 2019 and 4-1 to Borussia Dortmund 12 months ago.

The big difference this time is that they come into it as favourites, even if the wider German public are all willing them to lose.

Since taking over as Head Coach in December, Domenico Tedesco has worked wonders in Saxony.

Under him, Leipzig have climbed from 11th in the Bundesliga to fourth, securing Champions League qualification on the final day.

They also reached the Europa League semi-finals, ousting Real Sociedad and Atalanta, before running in Rangers at a raucous Ibrox.

In the Pokal, Leipzig scored 13 goals and conceded just once in victories over Sandhausen, Babelsberg, Hansa Rostock, Hannover and Union Berlin.

So now, this club who were founded just 13 years ago, are looking to win any silverware for the first time since being fourth-tier champions in 2013.

Will it be an historic night for Freiburg at Olympiastadion or will RB Leipzig prove to be too strong?

Yannik Keitel, Noah Weißhaupt and Kevin Schade are all out injured.

Nevertheless, Christian Streich does have plenty of attacking options to choose from, including top-scorer Vincenzo Grifo who’s managed 13 this season.

He, Roland Sallai, Woo-yeong Jeong and Lucas Höler formed the front four in last weekend’s game against Bayer Leverkusen.

This is likely to be the same again with Nils Petersen once again operating as a super sub.

Leipzig meanwhile are without midfielder Amadou Haidara due to injured.

Either-way, Konrad Laimer and Kevin Kampl are Domenico Tedesco’s preferred midfield duo, chosen over USA’s Tyler Adams.

Goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi, defenenders Lukas Klostermann, Marcel Halstenberg and Kampl could all start in their third Pokal Final for the club.

Christopher Nkunku, who won ten major honours with Paris Saint-Germain, is their main man though.

He has scored 34 goals in all competition this season, including a brace in the quarter-final victory over Hannover 96.

Nkunku and Emil Forsberg will support André Silva up top with Dominik Szoboszlai and Yussuf Yurary Poulsen left out.
