Spanish website SportYou have reported on an unrecorded event at Real Madrid training this week.
According to the report, coach Zinedine Zidane thrashed Cristiano Ronaldo in a free-kick challenge at Los Blancos training.
Ever since taking over from Rafa Benitez, there have been reports that Zinedine Zidane was unhappy with the fitness of Real Madrid’s players and has implemented plenty of endurance training to get them up to speed.
Ronaldo, of course, is known for having a relatively poor record from dead-balls.
Ronaldo was apparently practising his dead-ball skills when Zidane walked over and jokingly said to him, “Watch and learn how to take a free-kick”.
That resulted in the pair competing in a friendly challenge, with each man trying their luck ten times.
Zidane showed he’s lost none of his class by scoring from almost all of his attempts, while Cristiano only netted twice.
Ronaldo, however, didn’t sulk. Instead he was reportedly thrilled and, according to Sportyou, he came close to picking his boss up and giving him a piggyback.
If only we had footage to back up the story!
In any event, it points to the excellent atmosphere at Real since the departure of Rafa Benitez.
