This is getting ridiculous now.
It seems like all the press are doing are checking through Jorge Mendes’s Rolodex, they are stopping it randomly on one of his players, and boom, hey presto, a new transfer rumours surfaces.
Portuguese paper A Bola have today claimed that Jose Mourinho – who everyone is still taking as read will be the new Man United manager, even though that’s far from clear – has ‘reserved’ Braga winger Rafa Silva for the Red Devils.
The 22-year-old has a €20 million release clause which Man United need to pay to get him.
Jorge Mendes owns 50% of the player’s economic rights, so he stands to pocket a large slab of cash should the deal go through.
Whether that happens is anyone’s guess. If you were betting man, you’d have to put your money that this is complete BS.
According to the Man United hierarchy, Ed Woodward is the main in charge of recruitment. However as every passing week goes by, it’s becoming more convincing to believe that Mendes is pulling the transfer strings at Old Trafford.
To recap. Jose Mourinho? His agent is Jorge Mendes. Aymeric Laporte? Also Mendes.
And Benfica starlet Renato Sanches? Another Mendes client.
He’s also David De Gea’s agent.
